RE: 2nd MALWARE in two months, I can't believe it!!!

Slacker uses ICS to enable its connection to the internet when plugged into your PC via USB. The configuration of this connection are the most common cause of problems with being able to sync up through USB. Following each of these steps should make sure the connection is configured and installed correctly.
Make sure your firewall software's ICS block is disabled.
Most internet firewalls block ICS connections by default. Listed here are several common software firewalls and the methods for allowing the Slacker service to pass through them: Getting Around Your Firewall
Make sure the Slacker Tray Application is running.
The Slacker Tray Application (included with the Slacker USB Station Refresher), is a key component to the USB connection as it manually configures the ICS connection to work with your Portable Player, as well as reporting the status of the player as the connection is made. If you do not see the icon running (or have disabled it), you can start it by either launching the Software Player or by going to Start -> All Programs -> Slacker -> Tray Application.
Make sure the Portable Player drivers are installed correctly.
Sometimes, depending on permissions and system configuration, the drivers (installed with the Slacker Software Player) will not be installed properly and will cause the device to not be recognized. Follow the below steps to make sure your device is being recognized:
Plug in the Slacker Portable Player to your computer via USB.
Open Device Manager. (This can be found under Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager)
Check the category "Network Adapters" for a device labeled "Slacker Portable USB Ethernet"
If the device is not listed there, you may see it listed in Other Devices as "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget"
If the device has a yellow exclamation point preceding the name, right click on the device name and choose "Update Drivers" from the menu.
For the Update driver Wizard, make sure to select "No, not this time" in the first screen, "Install from a list or specific location" in the second screen, and check the box for "Include this location in the search" and type the location C:\WINDOWS\inf in the location box in the third window.
Make sure the IP address 192.168.0.1 is not being used by another device.
Windows ICS automatically assigns the device using the connection the IP address 192.168.0.1. As of right now, we have no way to alter or change this. You can check to see if another device on the network has this network address by following these steps:
Unplug the Slacker Portable Player from the USB connection.
Start a command prompt window. (You can find a shortcut to this by going to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt, or by going to Start -> Run and typing CMD in the dialog box.
Type the command ping 192.168.0.1 in the command prompt and press Enter.
If the pings all fail or time out, that means no other device on your network is occupying that IP address.
If the pings all succeed, that means there is another device on your network using that IP address. You will need to identify that device and change its IP address in order for Slacker to be able to connect.
Make sure the connection is not being blocked externally.
This type of problem is normally caused by an external firewall blocking the Slacker connection. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Slacker Portable USB Ethernet and double click. Make sure that the packet count for both Send and Receive are rising.
If Send is at 0, the Slacker is having problems through the actual USB cable. Try changing USB cables, or plugging the USB cable into another port on the computer.
if Receive is at 0, it means the Slacker is not receiving a connection. Check your router and modem to see if there is a built-in firewall that might block the connection.
I just think it's the SLACKER!

RE: 2nd MALWARE in two months, I can't believe it!!!

What did the people do that got them these virus? and so often?
Were these from virus attributed to torrents, emails or email attachments, dangerous surfing or what?
I'm always curious when these messages are posted. a specially when some people repeatedly get the same ones.
I would understand if someone said that they were surfing nude sites or downloading torrents. Just curious is all.
I wonder the same thing! I use Norton 360 and have never ever had a problem.
Not Me!
I surf safe....avoid questionable sites.
This stuff came in I'm sure thru some opening....I took off my SLACKER connection software...I aways wonder when a softwre wants you to lower your firewall.....I bet I get nothing in the future.

RE: 2nd MALWARE in two months, I can't believe it!!!

Are you running a software firewall? Zone Alarm might help to stop the back door.
The firewall is norton's an I have a hardware firewall....it's used with my SMC router...it's pretty darn good.....again 4 yrs since I got anything at all....now 2 intrustions since I installed The SLACKER connection software.....i was a bit concerned about it....because it opens a new connection and kills my firewall to connect.......I am almost sure it's the problem.
If you get a chance go and check out the SLACKER message boards.....if you have a hard time installing you need to drop your firewall to get connected....I needed to do that change for that particular program...

RE: 2nd MALWARE in two months, I can't believe it!!!

One thing that helps is to use something like Gmail to handle all your email instead of a local client, that one step alone is a big saver. I own my own domain but use Google Aps for all our email. Best move that I made though was leaving the Windows world, but that's not an option for everyone.
I've used Yahoo mail...and have stopped a local client over 5 yrs ago....just for that reason....i had no attacks in over 4 yrs....now 2 in two months......i think it's some back door....not sure what....but it does have a realtionship to my installing a program to connect to Slacker.....I might just uninstall that program....i think it opens up a door.....just by the way it connects.

2nd MALWARE in two months, I can't believe it!!!

Just just got that Windows Police Virus off my computer in September.
Now I got this Trojan.Vundo.V....virus.....it disabled my Malaware software....it erased all my safe points on my Norton Go Back....it was putting all kinds of ads up when I surfed the web......it was using up my CPU......It tried to get it with Ad-Aware....and the darn thing froze Ad-Aware.....
So I tried my Security Task Manager software.....which is another anit-malaware program.....and I killed it.....I think.
Beware....there are some bad thing out there....
This is the second VIRUS/MALWARE....that gt thru my Norton
I'm going to change to another program for protection...I'm done with Norton....PERIOD!

RE: Norton Anti Virus Software has gone mad!!!

Any recommendations on Anti Virus software other then Norton? My regular LapTop is tied up in a knots by a Norton program named ALEUpdat.exe every time I try to log onto my dialup ISP connection.
Mine did the same...this weekend.....i used a program called Security Task Manager to quarrintine and stop that process...It's the worm program for Norton.....it just used up all my CPU.....it kept it at 100%....so I just had to kill the process....
Go get it Here.....they let your use it for free for a while....worked great!
YOU CAN NOT STOP THAT PROCESS ANY OTHER WAY EXCEPT REMOVING NORTON.
