V-nosed bumper pulls

I'm planning on downsizing my 12,000 lb. Arctic Fox fifth wheel to a 6-8000 lb. bumper pull. Airstream is definitely on my short list. I've seen some other brands flash by on the highway with an aerodynamic V-shaped nose but I couldn't catch their brand names. Can anybody help with manufacturers who build V-nose trailers?

RE: Two Month Trip Report

Damdifino,
I wondered if part of the reason for your dream trip revolved around making it to Black Rock City, or if it was just incidental to your travels.
Yes, the timing of Burning Man had a lot to do with the pace of my trip. Usually I don't make reservations along the way, but I felt I needed to if I wanted to arrive at Black Rock City at the right time. I've been interested in going to Burning Man for several years and this was my opportunity.

RE: Two Month Trip Report

..only about half way through but you have an excellent blog. Thanks for posting up on the truck camper forum.
One question. As much trouble as you seem to have squeezing into some of those campsites; did you ever wish you had brought the truck camper instead?
Yes, many times I wished for the truck camper. Especially seeing how many of them there are up in the Northwest. They're rare down here in Texas.

Two Month Trip Report

First, let me confess that although I frequently travel with my Lance 835, the length and varied climate of this trip made me decide to take my fifth wheel, just for the sake of the space I needed for all my gear. Nevertheless, I feel like a truck camper person, and I know how you guys love to read trip reports, so at the risk of being run out of town I thought I'd post this. It was originally a blog published on a daily basis, or whenever I had an internet connection, but I've since turned it into a Web site: www.solambula.com.

TT built like a Featherlite horse trailer?

I have a 3-horse slant load Featherlite horse trailer with tack room. It's built like a tank, never leaks, never rots. I was wondering if anybody knows of a TT built along the same lines, i.e., welded aluminum roof, riveted aluminum sides, aluminum undercarriage, frame, etc.
I'm aware of the Jayco Skylark, which looks somewhat the same. But it's construction is not like Featherlite. Or maybe someone knows a good fabricator who could turn a horse trailer into a travel trailer?

RE: Halp! Stranded in Reno

damdifino
here is pic of fuel pump to identify what you had broken.
can you see it here
Appears to be the fuel pump power supply. I'm also getting a leak, about one drop every 30 seconds. But the engine is running good for now.

Blogging my 7,000 mile trip

Because you RVers have been so helpful to me the past few days, I thought you might be interested in the ongoing blog I'm writing about my 2.5 month, 7000 mile trip through the West. There's only about 3 weeks left in my trip, but if you page back in the blog you can read the whole thing from the beginning. Not that I think you're that bored or anything....:B
It's at http://damdifino.wordpress.com.
Thanks again for all your help!

RE: Halp! Stranded in Reno

Hello All, I'm the OP on this post. You all are a fabulous group and I've always been able to count on you. Thanks to your suggestions and encouragement, I crawled under the truck and did a painstaking inch by inch inspection of the fuel system. After about an hour I found a sensor on the fuel filter housing that had been knocked slightly loose. I disconnected it, peeled off the bits of shattered protective plastic shield around around it and firmly plugged it in again.
After cranking the engine for 30 seconds to a minute (what did I have to lose?) she finally started, running a bit rough. I let her idle for an hour, punching the accelerator every ten minutes or so just to test her. The, with the 5th wheel still attached, I made several drag race-type runns up and down the large asphalt parking lot. No problems indicated.
I decided to hit the road and made it to Lake Tahoe later in the day. By evening I was comfortably ensconced in the beautiful Fallen Leaf Campground, feeling relief and contentment.
Thank you all very much.

RE: Halp! Stranded in Reno

I would first yank my old butt under the front bumper and look for problems, then likewise the rear of the truck vicinity of the fuel tank.
Me and the wrecker man looked under there pretty close and couldn't see any damage (strange.) As far as halp: 14 days is WAY too long to wait for someone to poke their head under the hood. And that was a Ford employee that said that. The wrecker man said they have an 11 day backup in the diesel department. Anybody know a good garage in Reno? Should I get it towed on to Carson City. I can't just sit here for three weeks.

Halp! Stranded in Reno

I left Burning Man right after the burn on Saturday night and about 1:00 a.m. Sunday hit some metal object (bicycle?) in the highway. It made a terrible racket underneath the car and the 5th wheel. I thought at first I had a blowout. Then after about a half mile the truck just peters out and quits. I couldn't even pull all the way off the highway because of a soft shoulder.
Highway Patrol happened by an hour later and called in a wrecker for me (I didn't have phone service out there.)He also confirmed it was a bicycle I hit. $500 tow charge.
Anyway, about 5:00 a.m. this Sunday morning on Labor Day weekend I get dropped off at Jones-West Ford in Reno. The sales floor was open today and they're telling me there's a 14 day wait just to get a diesel LOOKED at. Meanwhile my fresh water's gone, my waste tanks are full, and I'm fresh out of ideas. I've already canceled reservations at Tahoe for the week. Anybody got any ideas?
BTW, it's a 2006 6.0L F350

RV ladder bike rack no wider than 10"

I'm looking for a back rack for the ladders of my to RVs. Both have steps that are 10" wide. I like the Swagman rack, but it states it's 14" wide. Can anyone recommend a rack that will fit my RV ladders?
