RE: Anyone pay personal property taxes on their 5th wheel?

In New Mexico we only pay $60.00 per year for the license plate. That's it. When we bought it, we only had to pay 3% sales tax, but only one time.

RE: Broken pin on slide drive

We had that happen and the tech who fixed it said that when you run the slide out, stop it just short of the end. Then advance it again. I used to just hit the button and run it out till is stopped but the tech said that all the force of it stopping when full out was then on that pin. By stopping just short of full-out then advancing you put far less pressure on the pin. Made sense to me.Well Earl, I will have to start doing this. It does make sense, Thanks Bruce

RE: Broken pin on slide drive

IF that is a power gear slide and the "Pin" is a bolt, it is a 1/4" Grade 8
Now when you get a new one get one that is long enough that the non-threaded part sticks out of the rods.. Then add washers (I used lock washers last time)
I used shorter bolts for some time and those things snapped like toothpicks. Last time I used longer ones as I just suggested.. I did use a 1/4x20 grade 8 bolt long enough to use a lock washer. Thanks
You need to use a bolt long enough that the NON THREADED portion of the bolt sticks out so you will need multiple washers under the nut.
If the threads are inside the coupler... it will snap quickly.
I also use Nylock nuts.Well I didn't know that! I will have to go back under and see where I am at on this. Thank you for the heads up! Bruce

RE: Broken pin on slide drive

I had to replace a pin on my in-laws Class A slide out once.. In his case it was a rolled pin. The purpose of using the pin I'd say is so that it will break in the event of too much stress applied vs snapping gears or breaking more expensive parts. Like a cotter pin for a snow blower's augers
(Snow blower - A device that is used to remove SNOW from driveways and walks that has augers that feed snow into a central chute which then BLOWS it off the driveway) j/k :w j/k, I sure did like your definition of a snow blower. There's no telling what you might learn here!:B

RE: Broken pin on slide drive

If it was the bolt that holds the tubes together, others have said that they get loose then elongate the hole causing the bolt to break. new bolt or drill a new hole for the bolt. If it's the roll pin in the gear that turns the tubes then replace with a new roll pin not a bolt. This is the bolt that broke, and I did use a grade 8 bolt. Thanks

Broken pin on slide drive

Good morning All:
We just came back from a 3000 mile trip. I wanted to wash and wax the 5th wheel. So I was about to extend the larger of the three slides (13 foot wide) and only one side was coming out. I stopped right at that moment and went under the 5th wheel. I separated the enclosed under cover at that slide and immediately noticed that the pin that holds the drive tube? against the gear rack was broken. I replaced it with a grade 8 bolt and nut. It works just fine now. Why do these pins break? I checked the gear track and gear, everything was free and easy. We've had this 5th wheel for 7 years and never a problem. Is this something that will happen again? Thanks for any opinions or experiences....Bruce

RE: Problem applying profile

A computer that won't open the browser has more problems than just connecting to the internet. I can open my browser even when I am NOT connected.Well I should rephrase that and say it will open but says I am not connected to the internet.

RE: Problem applying profile

What configuration utility are you using to connect to WiFi? Is it the utility that came with your DELL, or are you using Windows Zero Configuration(WZC). I was having issues with dropped, or no connections with my Alfa WiFi adapter using the manufacturer's config. utility. Would have to "repair" the connection fairly regularly. Once I switched to WZC, the problem disappeared. You may want to try using WZC if not doing so now.Hello 1492: We are using the utility that came with Dell. How does one use WZC that you mentioned? Sorry for answering so late as we just drove about 500 miles today. Finally settled in...........Thanks for your help and input!

RE: Problem applying profile

In some campgrounds? What are you talking about? Not enough information.Hell hotrod: Well I wish I could be more specific, but it worked in Amarillo, at the Oasis CG, it didn't work in Sherman TX, it would connect, but wouldn't open the browser, and now we are in West Memphis at Tom Sawyer and we get the error message we are talking about. I at a loss as to why this is happening. Right now we are using our Verizon usb card. Thanks

We have the "Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection" installed in our Dell from the factory. I hope that this helps. Thank you for your input.

RE: Heading towards Tennessee.............

I have nothing to add other than I did the east Tennessee border (Kingsport) to west Tennessee border (Memphis) drive about 2 months ago and I-40 was in good shape. No complaints and that was pulling a 24 ft. enclosed trailer.
On a side note: Great decision on going to Tennessee. What a great place! I just moved a way from Kingsport this weekend to Chicago for work. All though the job is substantially better in Chicago, Chicago is a nice to place to visit. Nothing more in my eyes. Nothing beats east TN and thats from one who spent 29 of my 30 years in Texas and Louisiana. Have fun! Thanks for the words of encouragement. I also agree that I-40 in Tennessee is in good condition. We have been going to Tennessee for the past 12-15 years as we have family in Maryville. Now that I/we are retired and still young, a move to Tennessee is in the forecast. Thanks again and take care........

RE: Heading towards Tennessee.............

Just crossed I-40 from middle Tennessee to Albeq. I-40 was good for the most part, some ruff roads in Ark. however Okla City was bad but they are repairing as fast as they can. We were in Colorado when we departed on our return trip to home base in Tennessee and elected to come back I-70 across Kansas and down into Tennessee. Good Luck and have fun in Tennessee... Happy Trails.... Thanks for this suggestion. We will be leaving from the Albuquerque area and heading towards Crossville. We are going to buy a house or property. We always enjoy ourselves in Tennessee that we are going to relocate there. Thanks for your suggestion. Take care.......

RE: Heading towards Tennessee.............

We traveled that route in Mid-July and the roads were terrible. Of all our trip they were the worst but the good news is that they are only really terrible in OKC. Just bareable east of there. Our route was from the OKC to Memphis area. Hope it helps.
Sheila aka....
Thank you for the update. I was concerned that this was the issue. We will try the route that WGLT suggested. Thanks again..........

RE: Heading towards Tennessee.............

I don't know what kind of time schedule your are on, but you might look at I40 to Amarillo, 287 Wichita Falls, then 82 to I-30 west of Texarkana. Took I30 this past summer and it was a good road, though crowded with trucks(but so is I40). Any way you go, I hope you have fun.
I can't believe you made this suggestion. I had this route picked out, but was not sure if it was doable. We have all the time in the world, and thanks for the good wishes. Take care............

Heading towards Tennessee.............

Hello All:
We will be heading towards Tennessee from New Mexico on I-40, and we will be going through Oklahoma City. Has anyone traveled this route lately? The last time we went through Oklahoma City the roads were terrible all the way to Arkansas. Is there a better way get around OKC?
Thanks

Tow vehicle tires

Hello All:
I have been reading for some time, that the average life span for tires on your 5th wheel/travel trailer and probably motor home, is about 4 to 6 years. So, other than wearing tires out on your tow vehicle, what is the possible life span of tires on your tow vehicle?
The reason I am asking is I will need tires on the 5th wheel, and I was thinking that I could take the tires off of the truck (same size as the 5er) and put them on the 5th wheel. Then buy new tires for the truck. I have Michelin LTX-MS with only 32000 miles on them. They are rated for 70000. They are 4 years old. This way I could rotate the tires from the TV to the 5er every 4 to 6 years. Good idea or not? Thanks
