RE: Refrigerator Iceing Question

You probably have the same type of latch mechanism that I have. If you don't hear it click, it's not latched and you will get icing. You're also in a fairly high humidity part of the country which doesn't help. We had the same problem after traveling thru the Northeast and IN, WI, MN. I took a hair dryer to the fins and forced my wife to start listening for the click. No icing since. However, we've since moved from high humidity to no humidity. That may be the real reason we're not icing up.

RE: Home Base after Retirement

We had planned on having a home base in Brunswick ME. We even purchased property there. Unfortunately we had to sell it once we found out how high the property taxes are in Brunswick. We've been on the road since July and are now in the process of purchasing a new home base in Queen Creek AZ. We had not planned on buying now but when we witnessed the price of short sales here we felt that we had no other choice than to bite the bullet and purchase now. We decided on Queen Creek because it had ample property with lot sizes of a little over an acre and no HOA's. If you send me a PM I can give you additional info on short sale listings.

RE: Towbar stuck in receiver

In my experience WD40 is not a particularly effective penetrating oil compared to the ones designed for the job.
I would get some Kroil or something similar and try it. It helps to wait a day after applying it. You might also try heating the receiver with a propane torch and tapping on each side in turn as you try to pull it out

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Did not get to the wiring today. Instead I washed the bugs off of the front of the MH that had been there since we left Albuquerque the week of the Ballon Fiesta. I was quite surprised when they came right off. I have been washing this MH with either Mequires Wash and Wax or Gel-Gloss Heavy Duty RV Wash and Wax. After a month of setting in the Arizona sun and temps exceeding 90 degrees I thought I would have to scrub like heck to get the bugs off. Never happened, I wet the front down with the wash and wax, waited a few minutes and Voila! the bugs came right off. Maybe I'll get to the wiring tomorrow.

RE: Rank the Class A GAS build quality

I can only attest to what I know from my experience or my close friends experience.
Top 3
1. Newmar Mountain Aire (no longer made in a gasser)
2. Tiffen Alegro Bay (not sure if it's still made in a gasser)
3. Winnebago Adventurer (not sure if it's still made in a gasser)

RE: Warning, be wary of the flu shot.

I received my first and only flu shot while in the military. I got to spend 3 days in the hospital with the flu. That was 46 years ago. I've not had one since, but I do get the flu about once every ten years or so. The last two were bad cases, one in 1998 and a light case of H1N1 this year. In both cases I ran a temp of 104 for a day. Personally I'd rather take the chance that I do now than get another flu shot. My wife had her first flu shot about ten years ago and collapsed on the stairs 5 minutes later with a bad rash all over her body (allergic reaction). Needless to say she does not get flu shots any more.
Mr Mark, Thanks for posting. Johhny T, Thanks for the explanation.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

I was getting ready to run some new wiring for my new TV and digital conversion box when I noticed that the clothes rod in my closet had about a 3" dip in it. I removed it and cut a piece of 1/2" rebar to put inside it. I wrapped the rebar to ensure a tight fit inside the clothes rod and reinstalled the rod. I doubt it will bend again.
Looks like I'll finish the wiring tomorrow

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

replaced the right rear HWH solenoid that was blowing 15A fuses. Works great now. Re-wired the coax for the front TV so that I can switch between Directv, Cable, DVD and antenna without having to reconnect cABLES.

RE: Unusual Things People Camp With

The most unusual was back in the mid seventies at Mine Creek CG at Tioga Pass CA. I woke up to harp music. I looked in the small meadow behind us and and discovered a very lovely blond lady playing the harp.. It turned out that she was a concert harpist with the San Francisco Philharmonic and enjoyed the quiet forest to practice in.

RE: Unusual Things People Camp With

In line with the pink flamingos, lots of knick-knacks of all kinds. A relative of ours has all kinds of little dustcatchers she takes with them, and doesn't consider her camp set up until they're all placed on shelves inside their trailer.
Karen - I checked all of our genealogical records and could not find a reference to you anywhere. However you must be related to my wife to be able to describe in such detail how she sets up the motor home. Plus she has so many plants that we decorated her brothers patio for a wedding reception with them. :B

RE: HWH Jacks Order

I can provide some recent good new re HWH. My right rear jack would not retract. I read the fine manual (RTFM) and iscovered how to retract them manually. After that I started troubleshooting the problem and discovered that the fuse was blown. I talked to a very nice lady in tech support who told me my solenoid was bad. She then transfered me to parts. Parts told me the part would take 2 - 3 weeks to arrive. It took 1.5 weeks. They called when the part came in and it should be here in 2 - 3 days (5-6 days from their facility). If it takes longer than that I'll repost with the actual shipping time.
So far I'm very pleased with the response from HWH.
Here's my update on ordering from HWH.
I ordered the part 0n 10/12/09 was told it would be take 2 - 3 weeks. It arrived at HWH on 10/20/09. I received it on 10/27/09.
They exceeded all of their stated timelines. I'm still very pleased with the support I received from HWH.

RE: Help! There are no good RV repair shops in Fresno

Give Leale's RV in San Jose a call. They don't have enough room to keep a coach longer than it takes to fix it. They're a but pricey, but they do good work, on time.

RE: Magne Shade, RV Windshield Shade

I'm with riggarob, we purchased a 10' X 4' roll of insulated waffle fabric with aluminum on each side for $19.95. It took us 2 minutes to install on the inside of our windshield with no cutting.
$19.95 2 minutes to install.....................$400.00 probably the same amount of time.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
which would you choose?
I'll stay with the $19.95 version.

RE: TOAD 65 MPH Limit

We pull a 2007 Honda CRV. It has a limit of 65 MPH. We usually drive at 62 MPH but have been up to 70, 75 or higher depending on what the situation dictates. We have 52K driving and about 23K towing with zero adverse effects. If you pull at a reasonable speed (under 65) you should never encounter a problem.

While we were in Albuquerque at the Balloon Fiesta I noticed that I had some tow-out on the right front tire. I had it aligned at SpecTrac in Gilbert AZ yesterday. They delivered it on time on price.
