Bakersfield to San Diego

I am traveling south next month in a 40 ft. motor home and will stop in Bakersfield before heading to San Diego. MS Streets and Trips routes me though Los Angelos. Surely, I want to avoid LA and seek another route. Any suggestions?

RE: Mac or PC laptop?

Wow, now the PC users are saying we Mac users moved to Mac because of "operator error". Some people will really stretch their imagination to justify their inability to recognize a better product and the fact that they are "stuck with their poor decisions".

RE: Mac or PC laptop?

Once again, if you like to spend hours calling tech support, trying to resolve problems, loading anti-virus software and waiting for what seems an eternity to boot up, purchase a PC. Or, if you want to turn it on and it works, buy a Mac. Nuff said

RE: Mac or PC laptop?

Your time is worth something!! I got so frustrated with my IBM laptop that I was ready to trash it and quit computing forever. It kept crashing and every time I called Tech Support some idiot in India told me to re-install the operating system - primarily because he could not determine the cause. In 2006, following the advice from my son, I purchased a MacBook Pro 17. I have been delighted ever since. No problems, no crashes, it just WORKS. Yea!!!!!!! I recently sold my older MacBook Pro 17 on eBay and purchased the new, faster version. It is great. Get a Mac and start to enjoy computing without the frustration.

RE: Replace ACCURIDE alum wheel

I recently traded two of those Accuride wheels to A&E Tire in Denver, CO. You might call and see if they still have them. 303-308-6900

RE: Dead battery on 08 Honda CRV Toad

The Honda manual says to pull the fuse only if you have the Nav system. I do not have the Nav system so I have no need to pull the fuse. I have ordered the battery charger devise from Brake Buddy. This unit should keep the battery charged while towing.

RE: Dead battery on 08 Honda CRV Toad

The Brake Buddy only draws current when it is filling the air chamber or activated. Most of the time it is doing neither. It is more than the Brake Buddy that is draining the battery.

RE: Dead battery on 08 Honda CRV Toad

I spoke with Brake Buddy this morning. They sell a battery maintainer that charges the battery while you tow. It costs $24.95 and requires one 12 volt wire from the coach to the toad battery. Here is a link: Toad Charger Has anyone used this?

RE: Dead battery on 08 Honda CRV Toad

AndreC, I follow the Honda procedures for towing. I usually drive less than 8 hours in a day, normally 5 or 6 hours. At the start of the second day I let the engine idle for 30 minutes and it still depleted after the second day of towing.

RE: Dead battery on 08 Honda CRV Toad

Bumpyroad, Your reply has caught my attention and raises several other questions. 1. Are you sure the Brake Buddy is the source of battery drain, and if so, 2. How to determine the right size jump starter battery? If it is causing the battery drain I would think you would need a rather large jump starter unit.

RE: Dead battery on 08 Honda CRV Toad

Thanks for the replies. It is not my lights since I have wired tail lights directly from the RV. I also have a heavy duty cigarette lighter socket installed for the Brake Buddy that has heavy wires directly to the battery connection. My Brake Buddy in only activating to keep the pressure up and that cannot be too often. I have the unit set to three lights for sensitivity so it rarely activates, only on heavy braking. Is it possible that having the ignition set to the "I" position is creating a battery drain somewhere? The radio and heater is off as well as the interior lights.

What Jump Starter Should I Get?

I want to purchase a 12 volt jump starter to start my Honda CRV toad on those occasions when my battery is depleted after a long tow. What should I look for? Amperage? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dead battery on 08 Honda CRV Toad

After towing my Honda CRV for two days my battery is dead and I have to jump start. I don't have the Nav system. The radio and heater are off. Only the Brake Buddy in connected. What is causing the battery to deplete? And, how do you deal with this? I have started the engine and let it run for 30 minutes before the start of the second day and it still is dead. This only happens when I two for two consecutive days. If I tow for one day, the battery is OK at day's end.

RE: High tire pressure

I strongly agree with Wolfe. You need to have your coach weighed and set your tire pressure according to the the tire manufacturer's charts. It would guess that 115 is way too much pressure.

RE: High tire pressure

What type pressure monitor do you have? We have the Pressure Pro system and it has a variance range (20% as I recall) before the alarm goes off. As the tires get hot and the pressure increases there is no alarm because it is within that range. The system works very well and I would not be without it.

RE: Dome vs Open Dish Satellite Antenna

I, too, am camped in Anacortes, WA. This morning, I turned on the TV and had no problems. I have an open dish MotoSat SL-5 dish. Last year, while here, I had a dome satellite dish and had trouble with rain fade every time it rained. With the new MotoSat dish my signal strength (85-90) is almost twice as high as the previous dome dish (45-50)

RE: Price on Winnebago Tour

Personally, I would not listen to a comment from someone who owns a Dutch Star who says a Winnebago is not worth the money. It is as completely different class of motor home in terms of quality.

RE: Splendide W/D combo.

I also learned from talking with a Splendide technician that using too much fabric softener will cause the lint to stick inside the vent instead of blowing out. This was evident when I cleaned the vent. The lint had sticky fabric softener feel to it. My wife has almost eliminated the use of fabric softener.

RE: Hard Water Spots on Full Body Paint

Thanks for the replies. This morning, before leaving the campground, I washed the RV side with Maguires car wash solution and a cup of white vinegar. It did a good job of removing the hard water spots on the full body paint. One of my aluminum wheels still has spots. I can remove those with aluminum polish later.
