Should be standard equipment on all diesels. I don't think you will find anyone who regrets getting one installed.

Hope this helps. I went here and downloaded the Service Manual for your truck. (~85Mb) Page 24-18 describes the fan switch and how to test it. 8W-42-2 has the circuit diagram. Looks pretty simple, battery, ignition switch, blower motor, resistor block, speed switch, ground. From what you say it looks like it's got to be in your ignition switch.

RE: one more electrical question

I'm lucky enough to store our 5er next to the house. There I run a 100' extension cord out to it from the garage. With the wife and kids going in and out of it I open the breaker to the A/C and water heater just in case somebody gets warm and tries to run the A/C or accidentally hits the switch for the water heater. Didn't think about the microwave, might have to open that one too just in case.

Back up slow and steady making SMALL movements - NOte - the truck will turn BEFORE the trailer.
If you over turn the trailer - pull ahead straightening out the whole rig and give it another shot do NOT continue backing up - this WILL jacknife the trailer - I can do this almost at idle speed - do not over-rev (see your trans heating)
Second all that.
While your truck my be backing straight, if there is an angle between the truck and trailer, that angle will get smaller and smaller at a faster and faster rate until you are jackknifed.

Unloaded in mixed driving my '06 DRW 3500 CTD 6spd gets 19-20 MPG. Pulling our 35' 10,000# 5er gets 11-13 MPG depending on if it's hilly and speed. Going from 65 to 55 easily nets an additional MPG.

Just got back from the Jellystone park near Niagara Falls Canada. Just before the trip I had installed a Progressive Industries hardwired energy management system (HW30C) with the remote display. At the two parks we spent the night at on the way up, there were no problems. Started setting up at Jellystone, plugged in the electrical and it read 108v. Turned on the AC on low and it dropped to 104v, the set point for the low voltage shutdown. It would run for a ~5-10 minutes then shutdown on low voltage. Talked to their main desk and maintenance man and within ~45 minutes their electrician showed up. We were at the end of the row with the distribution panel maybe 15 ft from our pole. The electrician measured 110v in the panel, he swapped our feed to the other phase which was running 113v which gave me 111v in the rig. Running the AC on high now dropped it to ~107-108v. We spent the whole four days with the water heater on gas, turning off the AC when running the microwave. We could only pull ~21-23 amps before the voltage got down too low. Voltage seemed to be higher when the sun went down. Glad I had the remote display of voltage (and current) to help manage things. Real glad I had the whole system itself otherwise who knows how low the voltage would have gotten to.

Apparently they found some with 57% ethanol in their tanks :E I guess that wouldn't be a problem for a flex-fuel vehicle. Someone, somewhere in the distribution chain got sloppy.

Here in South Eastern Virginia they have had issues with too much ethanol in the gas causing problems.

Me thinks you read a little TOO much into that link.:@
From the link, emphasis mine:
"Ford’s SAE presentation provides several range estimates for refueling a 5.0-liter Bobcat V-8 with a 10 gallon E85 tank and 26 gallon gas tank compared to a current Ford F-150 with a 5.4-liter V-8 and 26 gallon gas tank.... However, an extreme towing scenario with the 5.0-liter V-8 pulling a fully-loaded trailer up a constant 6 percent grade could mean refilling the E85 tank as often as every 100 miles."
Sorry but it sure doesn't sound like they "tested towing a trailer at full load for 100 miles up a 6% grade" to me. Looks like the only testing that has been done has been on a dyno.

Not that this helps your problem any but I have the RoadRest arm rest which has a thin lip that slips tightly into the top opening of the door, no gluing needed. I can bump it to move it forward or back to fit my arm or the wife's. I had to get something as door on the Ram has a hard rounded edge that hit me right in the elbow joint.

If you have only 2WD you are close with a payload rating ranging from 2,040 to 2,120. Throw in some passengers, those dogs, a hitch... and you could easily go over. Unfortunately the "Payload" in the above is basically the Base Curb Weight minus the GVWR. Base Curb Weight for a truck is like the Dry Pin Weight for a trailer, both are essentially useless since neither represent any real work numbers.
As stated earlier, load up the truck and take it to a scale (go to www.catscale.com to see if there's one nearby or check any bulk gravel, cement, stone businesses near you, they usually have scales) and find out how much room you really have. Unfortunately the Mega Cabs were neutered when it came to weight carrying ability.

We just (as within the last month) signed up for Good Sam and so far I'm not impressed. My main irritation so far is we're planning a trip to Niagara Falls later in the year. Hey, we got that Good Sam thing, as their brochure says I can go online and use the "Members-only Free Trip Planning tool to create a personalized (and RV Friendly) route". NOT! :R I could have done close to the same thing using Google or Yahoo Maps. Sure it gives me a nice itinerary and points out the Good Sam campgrounds and steep mountain grades along the way like I asked it to. But click on the links for those items and it takes you to the shopping page where you can BUY the Trailer Life Campground Directory or BUY the Mountain Directory.
Come on folks, I'm online, I don't want to go back and forth between a computer and thumbing through a paper book to find what I want. The links in the itinerary to the National Parks along the way will actually take you to the nsp.gov site for that particular park, why can't they do that for their own campgrounds? One would think that that would be good for their campground's business. Is this what I have to look forward to from them, getting nickle and dimed paying for little things one thinks would be included with the service?

Well we're back and everything went fine. The first couple of stops at 25MPH and one or two at 45MPH getting out of the neighborhood the trailer brakes were touchy. Just touch the brake petal, just enough to activate the brake lights and controller and you could feel the trailer brakes grab and stop the whole rig several feet before the stop sign. By the time I got to the city doing 45MPH with stop lights every intersection the stopping was back to normal. The highway interchange I use has a really long run up before you have to merge so I pulled off at the beginning and jumped out to check temperatures. All the hubs and wheels barely felt warm which gave me the warm fuzzy I was hoping for.

Do trailer brakes/bearings stick after storage?

Getting ready to leave in like 2 hrs. Just pulled the 5th wheel out from next to the house where it had been sitting since Oct. While it moved it did seem a little harder to get going and it did stop by just putting in the clutch and barely touching the brakes. I'm guessing it's just surface corrosion on the drums that will eventually get scrubbed away after a few applications since it's not like the brakes sat applied the whole winter. I got about a 10 mile city drive before hitting the highway for another 40. Provided the city drive goes fine, I plan on pulling over and checking the wheel/hub temps before getting on the highway. If I do find one running hot what are my options? Tried searching under brake(s), stuck, frozen... and got nothing.

If the torque converter is not locked up the excessive slippage will heat the fluid. If I remember right, on Dodge an EB was not available on early models with an automatic until their programming was changed to lock up the torque converter when the EB was engaged. I believe most third party EB makers offer a control box that will force the tranny to lock up.
