RE: Installing Roadmaster Brakemaster

Instructions come with pictures on air line hook up.
Install manual can be downloaded from Roadmaster in PDF if one is needed.
Always use the port that has no air coming out of it until the brakes are applied.

RE: Tow Lights Required

Required or not, at an angle from the rear in the dark your car may not be very visible
Drive straight and there should be no vehicles coming at a angle from the rear. Or they are not leaving the required car lengths between them and the back of the MH by state law.
Most states have this law:
To avoid striking the vehicle in the front of you, keep at least two seconds following distance. This is accomplished by using the two-second rule.
No one parks their car along a street at night and leave the lights on.
And every car passing the parked one is at a angle.
Last I knew DOT requires a reflector be in the tail lights. Also a car has reflectors on the front(Yellow) & rear(Red) sides.
And last. Anyone that runs into the back of the toad that has no lights or the $9.95 stick on lights. Are usually found to be their fault, and their insurance has to pay up.
If it happens often, that a car on a dolly with no lights other then the dolly lights gets ran into.
Why doesn't all or any of those accidents show up on these forums?
How many have you read about? Have a link to?

RE: Broken Leveler Spring on a 1998 Bounder Help

One spring per jack is probably a Power Gear.
They quit any customer service. And you have to get parts through a repair shop.
You can find dealers Here

RE: Price for a DP Oil Change

I asked for and he used all synthetic fluids and lubes. He's a diesel mechanic and an RV'er and is really a stickler about lubing every zerk he can find. He was telling me that the new, purple, synthetic lube grease is the best thing ever, and expensive. Can't remember why its so great now but I'm sure he did a great job lubing.
So, for me, the cost was $120 or so.
If you are getting synthetic fluids and filters for a Cummins.
Then that is really a great deal at $50 for all material used.
I do my own Cummins maintenance & use regular Rotella oil, Fleetguard engine oil filter, W/S fuel filter and 1 tube grease. Will cost me $90.19 for materials.
Wal-Mart 15W-40 Rotella alone cost me for 17 qt. $50.25.
:S Really hard for me to believe that deal you get for only $120 unless that OR SO is another $50-60 + you forgot to add.

RE: Dexron lll Transmission Fluid

My power gear manuel says to use MERCON V trans fluid.
My Power Gear users manual say the same. And that was what I used the last time I changed.
I don't know how the OP missed your post. :h
Dexron VI has been black listed by them?
Allison does have the Dexron V approved for their transmission's made after 2007.
Actually they took the Dexron III off their list.
You can find that statement on the Allison web site under approved fluids.

RE: Problems with short diesel stability?

415" house 208" chassis= 50.12% Looks like I am safe.
No hopping or any driving problems in the 7 years I have had it.
Since this is a DP with front axle under the driver.
Does it have less hangover then a gas with axle out front of driver?
On the same house & chassis length.
Will that change the handling?
Will the air ride or spring chassis be best.

RE: Improving gas mileage

My biggest improvement in MPG happened when I switched from a gas to DP. I went from 6 to 10
MPG
10.78 MPG average for last summer. I do use from the list.
1.
2. Cruise is broken anyway.
3.
4. 55-58
7. VMSpc
8. 1,000 one way or the other doesn't change MPG.
14. Toad 4 down 3,200 lb. Trailer with Motorcycle 2,560 lb
16. These all will work with DP’s too. I bet you can get 2-4 more mpg.
5. I don't use
6. No Vacuum
9. Tires Pressure Pro checks before, during and after trip
10. #2 Diesel at big turn over truck stops
11. Don't usually slow down if only going 55 MPH to start with.
12. Ram air goes through CAC and is never cold
13. You don't want to use air filter that allow a few more microns of dirt through in a Diesel. Won't
help anything with a turbo anyway.
The biggest gain any RV can get in MPG. Is to slow down in speed.
My average change from 55-58 to 60-62 will lose .6 MPG
At Diesel being around $2.90 a gal now. .6 MPG will make a difference of $161 on a a 10,000 mile
trip. That is more then my SS raise this year. :B

RE: 2000 HR Admiral 34E - Is this a good deal?

Windows probably can be fixed for around $300-400 each.
But how far behind are the rest of the windows doing the same?
If the salesman told you 9-10 MPG.
See if he will put that in the contract for 3 years.
That they will pay the difference if you get less MPG.

RE: FT'ers How often do you forward your mail?

only thing we get via snail mail is magazines and other paper that can't be handled online
That will soon become a thing of the past also.
I now get over 1/2 of my magazines on line & a weekly newspaper is on line also.
In fact after posting this I am going to read March Good Sam "Highways" magazine on line.

RE: Banks for a 5.9, 275 HP cummins

banks also pushes the K&N filter which is a no no if you want your diesel to live long.
No filter comes with the Banks PowerPack for a 5.9L ISB in a MH.
a good aluminumized exhaust of increased diameter is good to let the heat out and increase flow. 4 inch or 5 inch is good
Most ISB in a MH already have a OEM 4-5 inch exhaust.
Banks kit for the ISB has no muffler included.
no defueling up thru 3,000 rpm
The ISB is a electronic engine and the only way to hit 3K RPM is going downhill with exhaust brake on.
it goes without sayin if you up the fueling you need pyro and boost guage. more fuel = more heat. have a pyrometer and pay attn to it and back off the pedal if it rises too much. the pyro probe must be installed in the exhaust manifold. banks installs it in the downpipe for ease of installation giving a false reading.
The PowerPack comes with a boost & pyrometer gauge.
The Banks Kit comes with instruction on putting the probe in the exhaust manifold. If you seen them put another place. Then the installer didn't follow the instructions that came with the Kit.
as to the intake horn, that is a big price for hardly any gain.
The intake part in the Banks kit includes a turbo that will pump up to 33-34 PSI around 10 PSI more then the OEM turbo can produce.
And that makes a big gain over stock.
To the op are you sure it is a 5.9 with 275 HP and not 175 HP, or is it a 8.3? I ask because a 5.9 in the 98 and even the 98.5 Dodge PUs were rated from 180 to 235 HP if I remember right.
OP stated he had a MH not a PU. MH usually have a heaver transmission then the PU thus can handle more HP & torque with the Allison 3000 up transmission.
the Bank's kit... is a waste of money. It is better suited for those with newer coaches, that dont want to mess with anything.
Banks doesn't make a PowerPack kit for the newer ISB engines with the OEM Cummins Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VG Turbo) and High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) fuel system.
For the rest of the story.
I put the Banks PowerPack on my ISB back in 8/05 at the time it was a little over 3K installed.
Is it worth the money? Probably not as they will be no or very little return from the MPG increase they advertise.
And my D stock HP made it OK in CO. hills, before the Banks install.
Would I do it again? Yes! But I am a old drag strip racer from the late 50's early, mid 60's.
And at the time installed I had some extra $$$$ And knew that I would be keeping this D for several more years. And still plan for many more today.
There is a increase in power noticed on those red light take offs.
On ramps etc.
And it takes less pedal pressure on those rolling hills to keep speed.
Also I can hold my regular 55-58 MPH speed going up a 3-4 mile 6% hill without a problem. By just manual shifting to 5th.
With my toad I am around 26K lb.
But I did spend around 2K one time on a Banks exhaust kit for a Gas 454 MH I had.
And think I am getting more bang for the money with the D's PowerPack.
Your experience can be different. And there is nothing wrong with that.
For the OP. You may want to check with any Cummins Coach Care shop for installation. Bought mine and installed at their IN. shop.
For the ones that say its a waste of money. Then they shouldn't buy it. Or even own a RV, if looking for a return on the money invested in one.

RE: B&D coffee maker replacement

eBay has them. Search for B & D spacemaker.
They quit making the old 325 series that you probably have a long time ago. I have bought some for replacements and spares. Almost all are used and go for more then they did when new.
