RE: Need help/advice on 5th wheel setup for GMC Topkick

Well.......................I would no t chance using a Gooseneck adapter on a NEW rig.........it will void your warrenty.
So if there was a demand for a Gooseneck, don't you think the Manufacturers would offer it ????
More frame bracing , strength needed, due to leverage issues..
Don't believe me, look up "Lippert frame issues"....nice reading for a couple of weeks..L.O.L.

RE: Running lights left on at night

I understand .....it is easy to do, with the way people have shown.......that being said.....if in a campground, with street lights, buildings.etc. go for it.
However, in dark forest, state/national park.......many of us would like to see what the sky really looks like at night ....it is amazing!!!!
The National Park Campground near here (PLatte River) has no street lights.....................sometimes the stars are so bright, and the campground is pitch black.........it feels like you are one with the universe ..................Please think of the nature ....we are looking for, thanks

I think a lot of it might be "Newbees Disease"....they think you have to hit it hard.
I have the remote key fob for my jacks, and I lower it till the lube plate is just under the curve down.....if you follow, then ease into it.....works every time.:W

RE: Recommendations for portable generator

Hi,
Solar is really nice for a daily recharge of the battery pack. However it will not run the air conditioner effectively. FOr that I will recommend a pair of Honda 2,000 watt generators in easy to move 47 pound packages, that can be tied together to make a 4,000 watt generator that will get the job done.
Air conditioners take about 4,500 watts to start I don't think a single generator could or especially should run a air conditioner, because the windings will be really overloaded if you keep trying to start the air conditioner with something that is not adequate!
Solar SunElec.com
Honda Mayberrys.com They advertized low cost generators in the 1996 Trailer Life, I don't think they will be going away soon.
Fred.
Not to argue Fred....but, my Honda EU3000is will easily start and run my Ac, and has for years..:W
My Honda does not even put out 4,500 watts.:h.so, in this case you are inacurate.
I Love my Honda 3000, permantly mounted.,....Very quiet.

RE: which brand of oil for diesal engine

Rotella 15w40...Just serviced our diesel. You can purchased a 6 gallon box from SAM'S Club for around $74.
Same here, Sam's is the cheapest. But you forgot to add the cost of joining so you could get in to buy it.
If you already belong....and shop there often...it is a moot point you are trying to prove......:S
Oh, Rotella, but, I only have 300.000 miles....so, check back when my cummins' gets .."Broken In" :W

RE: Tire Pressure Monitors

You're basically paying $50 a tire to keep your peace of mind while out on the roads. Regardless on which system you buy, it really is a great tool to have while traveling.
I agree to a point. But to what end? They won't tell you of a blowout any sooner than you would feel it. Maybe on bigger DP's you might not feel it? Seems to me they would indicate a slow leak. Anything else and you will know as quickly as the sensors will. Am I missing something? Not trying to be crass. Obviously they are mandated on passenger vehicles for a reason, just wondering of what heads up indicator would be valuable outside of a slow leak that you won't know at the same time anyway?
They will alert you to a slow leak.....AND a blow out..Instantly...........a blow out, fast leak of an inside dual....could take some time to notice.
After having tire go flat, and never having a clue it happened, I will never tow without one!!!!

RE: Turning off my propane at night

Driving down the road with your propane on is being a Sucide Pilot IMHO - get into an accident and you'll find out why. Refrig will stay cold for up to six hours. I hope I'm never on the same road as you. This by the way is a well know proven fact.
Oh Really.....how about the many thousands of PROPANE Powered vehicles????? Tell me, why don't they all Burst into flames????? Answer that one if you can.............
And I have been a Firefighter for over 27 years...............NEVER, repeat NEVER have I responded to a PROPANE caused fire , in a vehicle going down the road.NEVER.
Sure, a large number of NORCOLD Fridges in Motorhomes have caught fire....that is because of a defect in the Norcold fridge....some on Dometic.. also..BUT, I have never witnessed one in all my years..

RE: Turning off my propane at night

Since you are new.....I will ask..........when you bought , or rented YOUR first home, did you everynight .Turn off the water, at the curb, turn off the electric at the meter, or pole, did you turn off your gas at the curb????????:h
Do you drive a vehicle??? Do you at night turn off the gas at the tank, dis-conect the battery under the hood???????
The reason I ask, is its all the same ...........your camper is "Your House/Vehicle" in a different form.
Oh.short answer.NO-NO NEED TO......:W

RE: 5er broken welds around pin box support

Lippert says the frame is out of warenty, (more than two years old). Dealer says the same about any warenty from Heartland. Sounds to me that Lippert knows about this from other 'claims', as they said they would send a 'repair kit' consisting of bigger gusset's to be welded in place.
I would contact Heartland factory personel yourself. And they may help persuade Lippert to assist also....It is a few year s old....but Heartland has been good to their owners...call them direct.......could not hurt.

RE: 5er broken welds around pin box support

Lippert has LOT'S of experience with Broken frames, pin box mounts.etc.....
Check out the threads of Broken frames.
Once the repair is done by a QUALIFIED welder.....it will indeed be stronger than the original. I would check with Heartland, maybe they and lippert will help with the repair cost.only thing you have to loose...is asking, or not asking..:W
