RE: Oil Analysis... At How Many Miles?

OA can also see a bad injector if fuel is in the sample.

RE: Pulling the trigger on a Ram 5.9L mega cab

once again I'm really appreciating all the replies--the exhaust brake issue is significant, although with the current camper the tow/haul switch may be enough for now. I've read a little bit about that, is it still true that the Jake Brake is the one to get to preserve the warranty, versus the Pacbrake which supposedly works better?
.
Getting the Pac Brake won't affect the Dodge warranty as it's covered by Pac Brake, plus you get an on board air compressor, great for tires, air matts and the like.

RE: Changing Fuel filter on 06 Dodge 5.9

I open the drain, remove the lid alowing all the fuel in the housing to drain before removing the old filter to keep the unfiltered dirty fuel from becoming trapped in the clean side as the new filter is installed.

RE: 5.9 cummins turbo oil pressure

The oil pressure gauge isn't even an actual gauge. Its a moving idiot light.
The ECM sends a signal to the gauge based on rpm and temps. Basically makes the gauge read what you think it should.
There's a 6psi pressure switch in the block. If there isn't at least 6psi the switch will trip a check engine light.
But as far as oil pressure goes, you're not seeing what the oil pressure actually is.
Are you sure? I thought cummins insisted that real gauges be used.
JustLabs is correct - for the oil pressure only. All the other gauges are "real".
100% correct

RE: Any significant 2009 Dodge mid-year changes?

I think Ford will be going to their 3 or 4th Diesel next year, just maybe Ford will get it right this time.
I belive it's #5 for Ford.. 6.9, 7.3, 6.0, 6.4 and now the new 6.7.

RE: Any significant 2009 Dodge mid-year changes?

While I am quite satisfied with my truck and it's Navistar(Built in Huntsville, Alabama)6.4PSD, I have a pretty good idea that the new 6.7 Ford built(unfortunately in Mexico) will probably turn out to be the best pickup fitted diesel engine ever built. Reliability, power, fuel economy will top the competition for years to come. No knocking the legendary Cummins, it is a great boat and generator engine(think steady state rotational speeds), but V-configured engines are the way to go for road vehicles with their wide powerband.
With the upcomming Ford 6.7 engine will it then be avalable in the Ford F650 or will the Cummins still be the engine of choice for Ford?

RE: Aftermarket Clutch For 2007 Dodge 3500 RAM

I replaced mine at 45,000 miles with a South Bend after adding a box that when in 4th 5th or 6th gear if floored the clutch would slip, when I bypassed the box the oem clutch was fine. I like the box and the added power so the clutch had to go. I tow alot, as I am a national technician and travel across the US an Canada, my company pays me to drive as it saves them air fare, car rentals and hotel charges. I like having my house on wheels over a hotel anytime. I still fly as I did yesterday when emergencys pop up. I now have 122,000 trouble free miles.

RE: Tow 9k lb mid profile 5th wheel with F-250 5.4L?

Had four Cummins Rams. A '95 160hp slug with it's slippery 47RH, a '98 12v 5spd 4.10 howler (2500rpm at 70 in 5th), an '01.5 ISB auto/3.55 that was my favorite and the '03 with it's "dreaded driveline vibe" that Dodge gave up on, said it couldn't be fixed and don't bring it back. Found out later there was a batch of bad pinion yokes that might have been the problem. Dodge doesn't like to fix them. They want you to buy a new one. I would be very interested in a 6.7L Cummins in the new body style IF they've been programmed to regen around town like the 6.4L PSD does. Having to drop what I'm doing to go take a leasurely 45 minute interstate drive to nowhere with cruise off so it can regen once every tank wouldn't fit my work schedule! The proprietary 1.5 din stereo port so that nothing fits except Dodge's $2600 GPS in dash unit versus Ford's double din anything from BestBuy fits and the lack of a power adjustable passenger seat in mid trim among other things is a turn off but not the end of the story. Ford has a lot more truck to offer. Dodge has the Cummins to offer. Gives me a headache!
Crutchfield carries Dodge replacement stereo's with GPS if you want.

RE: Dodge 3500 reliability, or issues.

My 05 (bought new)has over 100,000 mi and has never been to the dealer for anything, the tires were replaced at around 85,000 and other than oil and filter changes thats it, still on original brakes as well.
My wife and kids share our 91 dodge (bought new)that is still purring right along.

RE: Dodge question

I'm not sure on the 08's but on the 05's they had a spacer that can be removed from the spring perch that will lower it by about 1", if that helps.

RE: K & N Cold Air Filters.

I've used them since 82 it came on my first diesel (it came with it direct from GM) I have them on both my Dodge diesels the 91 has more miles on it than most on this web site and my 05 has 110,000 trouble free miles. Proof is in the pudding not internet myths, or mechanics that couldn't come up with a real reason, lets blame it on the K & N filter...installed properly and SERVICED properly no issues...

RE: mileage vs engine hours GM question I need Help!!

I had same question with my Dodge. Posted a thread bout a month ago. If it means anything from the responses I got us Dodge owners avg 30 MPH. It ranges from lower 20's to one guy who IIRC had 41. Me personally, 27.9 MPH.
I posted in that thread, since then my avg has dropped, a little 107,627 mi 2061 hrs for an avg 52.22 and this is 99% interstate driving at 75 - 80

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

What I find odd Steve is how your always comparing your old low power diesels to a newer Hemi,(compared with the 325+hp Cummins since 04.5). Now if I compare my 91 Cummins to my 05 it's like comparing my 05 to my Ford 9N tractor, slow noisy crude. Wife won't race me in the 91, but I can tell you it wouldn't be close, nor will she allow me to try and sell it again.

RE: Dodge CTD engine run hours

Can someone explain to me what this number means?
Mine is 23027 Miles / 653 Hours = 35.26 MPH.
Your avgerage speed in 653 hours is 35.26 mph, or if you set the cruise control at 35.26 and drove for 653 hours you would cover 23,027 miles.
