RE: Expensive Camping

We usually go where we can run the boat, ski and fish.. Now filling up the boat is our biggest cost after getting there. we also try to eat like kings too. but still cheaper then eating out while on vacation.

RE: 2004 Chevy 1500.... Shocks

thanks guys. good info. I have 110,000 on the truck with all stock stuff.. E rated tires probably did not help the ride. We are getting new car (for the wife) and I will drive a toyota for daily use (gas milage) so the truck will get parked and used a lot less. Kind of saving what life is left for towing. I am giving the truck a good run down and getting ready for the next who knows how many thousand miles. so I have to choose.... might go with the heavy duty and sacrifice on the ride. I do load the back up with firewood a lot and then run on bumpy roads.. again thanks for the info everyone.

RE: 2004 Chevy 1500.... Shocks

2004 Chevy 1500.... Shocks

Still riding on my original shocks. I get some bouncing a bit on shifting roads especially in turns. I have no outward signs that I need shocks but I am bitting. Bilsteins which ones for my 1500? Seems the 5100s might be a bit too much. The Ranchos seem interesting but that might wear off after I have to adjust them a few times. I am installing myself so that should off set the sticker shock a bit, so I can buy what I want. What do I want? I am open to all suggestions

RE: Non electric sites in Yellowstone is one noisy place

I wouldn't like it but what can you do. Even with electricity I still make my coffee on the stove and cook breakfast in a pan.

RE: Guess I can still believe even without understanding

I think mecreature was right on target when he said on page 2 of this thread "with 805 post in your profile, you have been around here long enough to know that these guys will not stop until you have a grasp on this magical device." :B :W Barney You guys have beat some things into my head in the past.. LOL

RE: To Help or just shut up.

I use a little method I like to call "writing it down" --- works every time for me! That's probably the smart thing to do, but we had a term for people like you in high school: NERD! My problem is, I try to write things down while someone is speaking, and I end up missing 90% of what they say, and only writing down about 5% of what I hear... The end result is worse than if I hadn't listened at all. At least if I just listen, I retain about 50%, which is more than average. I write things down too. If its going to fast I say whoa for a second. I have been called a lot worse things then NERD... LOL

RE: Trailer tire Questions / Help - multiple blow outs

too many factors to blame one thing. You can sure get an add bonus with LT tires I would think. especially at your weight.

RE: Guess I can still believe even without understanding

still don't QUITE get it...if it's connecting through a hitch ball, doesn't THAT create the pivot point? (oh, never mind...as long as it works....i can't fathom how computers or televisions operate, either.....must be magic) with 805 post in your profile, you have been around here long enough to know that these guys will not stop until you have a grasp on this magical device. BTW: Love that Puma 25BH sweet TT

RE: To Help or just shut up.

This is just life. The guy is no dummy. I do believe he would get the hang of things over time. He does pull a boat several times a year. I would not loan him my TT. I do have a few friends that I would loan my TV and TT to. I just get the nudge from my DW to go help, she thinks I know what I am doing (LOL) and she knows the trouble I go to to make sure things are just so before we hit the road. If we traveled together more often I would take a stronger stand and make him understand my concerns. I do respect him and the job he has dealt with for many years. I know several Law Officers and they are a group unto themselves it seems.

RE: To Help or just shut up.

Wow... that (and more, I'm sure) must have been difficult to watch. Moral of the story: It's almost impossible to help a guy who already knows everything. :R And never ever loan out your trailer. that is what I came away with. he had the majority of the TT weight on the front jack and the back stabilizers. I know they are strong, and I have probably tightened mine up a bit more then I should have at times but it made me cringe watching.. He could hardly turn the crank on the jack there was so much weight on it.

RE: To Help or just shut up.

How did the dumping process go?!!! Sounds like the guy thinks he knows everything, even though he has never done it before! I went ahead and got our stuff cleaned and dumped earlier that day and went to the beach for a few hours before we hit the road.. I made sure I missed the dumping of the tanks... LOL

To Help or just shut up.

Yeah its a long post. But I am sure some others have had to deal with the same thing. We take a trip once a year to a state park with a beach on Lake Michigan with a large group. This year one of the families borrowed a TT from friend A Jayco 28BHS. Nice TT... He wanted to tow it with his 2007 Toyota Sequoia. My wife suggested I try to help them out since the have never towed like this before. I suggested against this combo, especially since he will be letting another family of 4 ride with his family that is 8 people plus what ever gear he as in the TV. He said he would take it slow. Good news he ended up getting a F350 from a friend to tow the TT. The friend loaning him the TV also suggested he not tow that TT with his Sequoia. I suggested the morning we leave that we meet up and travel together. Maybe a couple of the kids can ride with us. (I was really trying to lighten the load of 8 people being in a Crew Cab.) He says that's a good idea. So we meet that morning on the road and I tell my son to go and tell 2 of the others they can ride with us. The driver the other trailer says no we have plenty of room. I say how? He said the kids are riding in the back in the TT. I tell him that is not a good idea. He says they will be fine and my son can ride with them. I say not gonna happen... And on a side not I tell him I don't know for sure it is legal to do that. Big mistake on my part. He is a Local Law Enforcement Officer. And says he knows the law.. I say fine. I just lean on the side of caution legal or not.. So when we get there they pride themselves for beating us there by 20 minutes Here is the first thing I see when I get out to stretch my legs... Stabilizer jacks down and awning out before he unhitches the truck. He cannot get the hitch off the ball. I tell him to pull that little lever back and it should go up. (Oops he says) So he Cranks the tongue up to get it level then lowers the front stabilizer to the ground and calls it level. Then remembers he forgot to fill with water. I tell him how to level and then use the stabilizers to firm everything up. He fills with water and comes back and does the same thing over again. I guess the reason I am posting this is I am not sure how to get someone to understand just the simplest safety precautions. I guess the flip side is don't loan out your stuff too. Just wanted to share an interesting weekend. This is just how it got started.

RE: Black goop in fresh water tank

I would like to know how to kill black algae, too. I have some in my pool and chlorine shock doesn't faze it. Neither does any of the algeacides I've tried. Craig friend of mine had black algae last year. regular stuff would not work, he got something that KO'd it and then shocked it. it was some nasty stuff. I run some bleach thru mine a few times a year... just for giggles.

RE: Cat urine smell??

X2 on setting out some mouse traps. Try sprinkling some baking soda in the area. Let it sit for a day and then vaccume up. X3 I caught a couple mice this week in my TT. After a whole season with no mice. I keep a couple traps set 24/7 for good measure and they were tripped. Fresh baby swiss and within 30 minutes...SNAP
