RE: Hadley air horn help.

The only thing I've seen do what you describe (in my limited experience) is excess pressure. The solenoid valves are only good for so much pressure and higher than that will result in the valves leaking.
Scott, the horn would start blowing as soon as there was enough pressure. It would be a very low moan. Fixing the ground wire seems to have fixed the problem for now.

RE: Hadley air horn help.

I found the problem. The ground was weak. I found a new ground point and it's fine. I am out 50 dollars off a new solenoid and relay. UGH! I could have used hat money for something else during this camping season. Oh well.
Thank you for all your help.

RE: Hadley air horn help.

Have you checked the switch/horn button that activates the relay? Ours is activated by the horn button on the steering wheel. There could be an intermittent short there or in the interface between the steering wheel and the steering column or the button sticks.
I would disconnect the coil side of the relay and look for voltage ( or ground depending on how yours is wired ) on those leads - move the steering wheel/button to see if the voltage/ground comes and goes.
The air horns are hooked to the steering wheel horn switch. They are also hooked to the stock horns. I figured if there is a short, the stock horns would go off as well.

Hadley air horn help.

I've had problems with my hadley air horns on my TV. I installed them years ago with no problems. Recently the horns started blowing on their own, they would stay open until all the air depleted. I cleaned the solenoid and that worked for a few hours. I have to remove the fuse to stop the compressor since the air goes right out of the horns.
Today I installed a brand new solenoid, SAME PROBLEM! I figured maybe he relay is faulty, changed that, SAME PROBLEM! I even disconnected the wires from the solenoid and the air still leaks.
Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

I would stay away from rolling a sheet in the awning. From my experience the awning holds a lot of water, even if you roll it up dry, water will get in from rain, etc. The sheet will soak up the water and mold. If rolling the shade with the awning, I would stay with a material less prone to growing mold.

RE: Squirrels in the FW

The trap is usually attached to a fence or some other stationary object to keep it upright. The bait is dropped down the upright tube after removing the cap. That keeps the bait in the center of the bait station and only accessible by entering the horizontal tubes. Squirrels are rats with bushy tails. They're still destructive little rodents.
With my luck, the little bugger will get back into an inaccessable part of the trailer and die. I'll be in for a summer of death smell.

RE: Squirrels in the FW

Make a bait station from 4" PVC pipe. Home Depot has the bait.

Where would the bait go? In addition, I think I would catch all the gray squirrels in the area. Too many of those to entice with bait.

RE: Squirrels in the FW

Seriously scootsk, I'm really a gentle person. Very non-violent. I don't hunt and I'm a serious bird feeder. I belong to the Audubon Society. I've got 6 feeders in my yard and I even put out corn for the many gray & fox squirrels in my neighborhood. But when the subject of red squirrels comes up I turn into a nasty blood-thirsty killer. :B
Uh oh, red squirrels are that bad? What have I gotten into? UGH!

The PETA people are going to be all over you. Mike, I haven't seen the little bugger since that day. I'm hoping he jumped ship in Virginia. I wish he would rear his little head.

RE: Squirrels in the FW

sure your not dealing with a pack rat? Pack rats tend to like making nests out of nature
Squirrels don't normal take up residence inside buildings, sheds, RVs. They may stop in from time to time but what ever has been in yours has spent a lot of time there. Squirrels tend to be more the out doorsy type.
We actually saw the red squirrel in our yard. Hey are not native to Long Island so I think it's safe to assume that it's the squirrel. Also when I did a google search on which animal collects pine cones, you guessed it the red squirrel.

RE: Squirrels in the FW

Today I dropped the enclosed belly. Pulled out another two bags of pine cones. If the squirrel has nest some where, I don't know where it is. I also sealed up the area by the propane tanks where I think it's getting in. I left one opening, with a rat trap set up with peanut butter as bait. If he's there he will have to go passed the trap to get out. Fingers are crossed. Hopefully he decided to stay in Williamsburg, VA.

RE: Squirrels in the FW

Could get a dog but not mine. He shares his food with squirrels and any hungry critter that comes out of the woods, except the opossum. I have to empty his bowl and put fresh food in when they visit or he won't eat.
Got a wheaton terrier, supposed to be a good varmint dog. She's not. She will end up licking the darn thing.

RE: Squirrels in the FW

I would use a Havahart trap. Bait it with the door secured open for a few days to get him used to the trap. Then set it and you should have him. I would eliminate it from the gene pool in one way or another.....
I've had one set up for about two weeks, with a tasty morsel of oatmeal and peanut butter,no luck.

RE: Squirrels in the FW

According to the pros, mothballs will not work after the squirrel establishes its nest. I've had a rat trap set up for over a week and good helping of peanut butter, I have this set up near the area I belive the squirrel is gaining access. I also have a squirrel trap set up in the cargo area, where I believe the squirrel gained access to the area under the furniture.

Squirrels in the FW

Well we picked up the trailer from the campground last week. While we were cleaning we kept finding strange seeds. DW open a drawer and she finds a pine cone completely shredded. It looked like an eaten cob of corn. I pulled all the drawers out and this is what we found.

These pictures are of the base of the bedroom furniture. The pipes you see are the pipes run for the washer and dryer in the front of the FW. I hard to take apart a carpeted cover to get all these pine cones out.
The next day as I was trying to figure out where the critter got in, I found another "store" of pine cones. The electrical center (circuit breakers, 12 v fuses) was filled to the brim! Sorry no pics, I was too nervous (fire) and furious to get the camera. I immediately unplugged the FW and proceeded to clean out the debris. I ended up with four bags of pine cones and half a 15 gallon shop vac of broken pieces of pine cones.

I have a red squirrel. He was seen in my yard. They are not native to my area. I haven't seen him since. I don't know if he is still in the FW. We just returned from Va. Didn't see him he whole trip. I set up a rat trap in the area where I think he got in and a squirrel trap near the access to the washer/dryer plumbing. Nothing.
Any suggestions to get rid of this critter would be appreciated.

RE: Awning problem

Ky#5, the circuit covers the two main slides and the awning. There is a circuit breaker. The slides work fine. You mentioned a fuse at the motor, where would I find that fuse?

Awning problem

I have a 2010 Jayco Eagle FW. I'm in Virginia on vacation. I went to put out my awning and nothing. It is a carefree electric awning w/ remote. The remote is working the other accessories such as slide outs and landing gear. The switch is a one touch which when pushed will open the awning. If it is let go the next time you touch it, it will close the awning. I tried to jump the wires going to the switch with no avail. Any ideas to what is going on? I haven't tried to jump he motor with he supplied cables yet as it's Easter and I don't have a ladder to reach the awning motor.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
