This was brought up on another RVing forum yesterday. They suggested THIS from the Eastwood Co. Don't know anything about the product but do know that Eastwood Co is highly respected.

Suffered the same problem and tried polishing the plastic and replacing the bulbs to with no improvement. Got to looking at the headlight assembly and could see that they were clouded over on the inside. The assembly was made by TYC and after checking on the internet found a place in Florida that sells the RV replacements. The guy there told me that this is a very common problem in the south due to the high UV's.The new ones came with new bulbs and were very clear. The cost was only $65 each side and the difference is literately like night and day !

Check to make sure the cloudiness is not really Crazing (Small cracks in the plastic). If not and it is caused from abrasion on the plastic surface the surface should be polished with NOVUS plastic polishing compound. This can be found at any glass shop. This is used on all plastic airplane windshields.

Thanks for all the helpful responses to my headlight problem. I believe my problem is mainly yellowing due to exposure to sunlight rather than abrasion. I'll try some of the solutions suggested and if that doesn't work I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy new headlight covers. I appreciate the help.

Wienerbago,

Although I have never tried this, my son's Mustang club friends have used toothpaste to polish out the lens on the euro 5.0 headlights on mustangs.

I do not know if it works but maybe try it if all else fails, It simply removes that layer of ozone they tell me,, But as one person posted there is a thin layer bonded to the polycarbonate, this is gone that is why they yellow,,

By the way with that layer gone you will have to repeat the process occasionally,

Good Luck

I wonder if the PLASTIC cleaner now available to use in dishwashers to remove tomato sause stains in plastic bowles would work?

I haven't seen the problem yet.

DLMT, I am a licensed optician(pretty impressive, huh) anyway, take it from me, there is NOTHING you can do for your Maui Jims except through them in the trash and get a new pair. By the way they are the best sunglasses you can get, at any price. Which leads me to the next thing, the pair(model)that you're wearing is probably gonna cost more than $130 to replace(if that model is still made). To keep them from scratching DO NOT clean the things on your shirt tail or neck tie.Tell ya what, let me know what model, frame color, and lens color(gray, bronze, or rose) and I'll get you a pair @ wholesale cost.

Home Depot also sells a product called "M-A-A-S" also "PEEK" that works. Also a product made to polish cultured marble, can be found in the cabinets department.

Covering the headlamps during long storage times "like the tires" will prolong the life.

To remove the yellowing on the 'outside' rub with #400 wet and dry paper. Keep it good and wet! Did mine and can now see the bulb inside the housing.Scratch remover will make it even better.
