Has any body seen or bought one of those coffee perks that go over one of the burners on your propane stove? It apparently draws the heat up somehow and perks hot coffee without electricity or batteries. They look really nice- just like a reg perk, and you can get them at wal-mart for about 50 bucks or so.

Newfiegirl,
Used one in the field while serving with the marines. They work by boiling the water which collects at the top and drips down through the coffee grounds. Very simple design. But $50.00 dollars seems very high. Try Cebellas or a military surplus store. I had a cheap one that I got from the military and it worked fine.

I've priced that coffee maker at the online wal-mart site in the states and yes it's only 36 bucks. But here in Newfoundland, the same, identical one is 59. Oh well. Im gonna get it any way. (its even more expensive at Canadian Tire)

Get a basic stainless steel perculator. Nothing fancy needed.

We tried the percolator route, and yes it does work great, but a regualr coffee pot is so much easier to clean up (in my opinion). We have both. The percolator when boondocking. The regular ole' coffee pot when at full hookups.

Got to agree with co519. I got one, Stainless Steel stove top percolator, at Wal-Mart for around $12 and love it. We use it a lot, even if we have hookups because the coffee taste better with it.

I've got the Coleman Coffee Maker -- its different than a percolator.

The Coleman works just like a regular Mr. Coffee, but it uses propane for heat instead of an electric burner. Mine works thoroughly excellent -- a must have for me because I rarely camp with hookups.

Percolators work great too -- for me the Coleman is a bit easier is all.

I got mine online at Coleman.com. Happy camping!

We have the Coleman coffee maker, and it looks like a nice set up, won't get to try it until May. The only other thing I would reccommend is something to keep your coffee warm with.

We purchased a insulated pump thermos dohicky off of Ebay to pour the coffee into after it's done brewing. You can't keep the coffee maker over the burner to keep the coffee warm after brewing.

I heard it's slower, but I figure the coffee will be just like at home, I seem to have problem's with the percolater type coffee makers, so this will be easier for us.
