we still have our old, battered blue porcelen coffee pot from our tenting days... no propane needed! set it on the rocks around the fire and it boils and perks... drink/chew real tasting coffee and grounds and LOVE it... beats the hell out of driving a SUV to starbucks

Sorry, I was at work and didn't have much time to elaborate, but you will need something to put the coffee in to after you brew it. You can not leave the heat on the base after the coffee is brewed because it will melt the base.

keeping the coffee warm won't be a problem. I won a realy nice Irving thermos when I worked there. It really keeps hot beverages steaming hot even after 10 hrs or so. My husband went ice fishing with his dad not long ago, and he made boiling hot tea in it before he left at 8 oclock that morning. It still burnt my hand when I poured the rest out 5 oclock that evening. Dont know where to buy one though. Might try any Irving station directly.

Haven't used mine yet but several other threads on the Coleman stovetop drip claim it works great, even has pause. But the one drawback is that it is slow, and you must remove it from fire as soon as it is done. Most who have it also got a thermos or a craraffe (?spelling) to keep the coffee in. I do that anyway because we used to do coffee in the little tin perk on the stove. Now I can see how strong it is instead of guessing. Whew sometimes I over cooked it and wow that stuff would melt your spoon.

Go onto ebay.com and do a search for
coffee percolator

There are many metal and glass stove top "coffee makers" or percolators as us old folks used to call them.

You may find one at a local thrift store or??

I have one upstairs that came from my Mom's estate. I bought an electric coffee maker, but didn't think about times I'd like to save electricity when dry camping. I'll keep it instead of putting it in the donation box.

Have been using an old metal perk coffee maker for years. Works great over propane heat of wood fire. Try a backpacking supply store or hunting supply store. Should be able to find one for $20 maximum. Just dont let it boil over unless you like chewing grounds while drinking your coffee. Tried tieing grounds in cheesecloth and throwing them in boiling water a couple of times. Coffee was so strong you had to cut it with a knife. Had to sharpen the knife after the second cup!

WE have the Coleman from Wal Mart. It is fast and really makes a good cup. We use it when overnighting at Flying J's most of the time.
