Hi. I just perchased a new 24 foot Fifth Wheel Trailer. If I cut a hole in the bed liner to install the hitch can I seal the hitch to the bed liner to prevent water from leaking in under the bed liner that rust the box. Thanks for your sugestions. Clint Shortt cshortt@golden.net

If you are using a drop in bed liner you do know the rails won't tighten down over it and the hitch will move around. That would make for a bad trip. The spray in are ok to put the rails on top of.If your talking about sealing around the holes cut for rails, I think its a waste of time.Your bed isn't going to rust. The drop in bed liners scuff the paint but thats about it.The shine is gone but no rust.

yes you must atleast cut slots for the hitch rails and bolt thru the bed only, to the frame. Man tho it costs to have it professionally installed but they who do know exactly what to do. Lets say this too, say you are in a bad wreck and it comes out that YOU installed the hitch! maybe there are no reprecussions to consider! I don't know

You can, but I think it would be a waste of time and effort. You will always have the potential for water/moisture between the bedliner and bedwalls/floor from the wind blowing up the side of the truck while driving - it just isnt air tight.
You have got to cut the holes, but dont bother sealing the edges.

If you have a drop in bedliner, do you have to take it out if you want to install a fifth wheel hitch?

Scott, you A) remove the bed liner and throw it away or B) cut out the bed liner to accomodate teh rails. Personally, I never used a bed liner till this last truck and I got a sprayed in liner. Just make darn sure the hitch is properly installed (professionally).

Go with a good spray in liner, I had a plastic drop in one time & they hold water in & eventually rust appears in the bed.
