Heading for the panhandle next week and looking for a quick overnight stop near Decatur. Preferably a state rest area. Does Alabama allow you to park overnight? Thanks.

Joe Wheeler State Park at Rogersville is nice. About 30 miles from Decatur near Rogersville. It is one of the best State Parks in Alabama.

Colton,
There is a welcome center there at the State line. Check with the security guard. I don't believe AL has anything against a nap. Stop a little earlier than the truckers or you may not find a spot big enough to get in.

My understanding is that Al will not allow overnight parking in the rest areas. If your looking for something in Decatur, I would suggest Point Mallard. Wave Pool, water slides, ice skating rink .....

Joe Wheeler is nice too, but on the other side of the river from Decatur so further away from Decatur. It is a state park.
