Just heard, on the new's that ZENDERS, in Frankenmuth, is changing it's focus!!! They are going into the water-park, hotel business. Does this mean, they are booting the chicken?? According to the story, they are doing a $10,000,000.00 make over, doing water park, hotel etc.. What do you think, have you heard about this ??

Where in the world are they going to build everything? You have a hard enough time finding parking as it is on a busy weekend. Part of the lure of Frankenmuth, at least for me, has been the quaintness of the stores and businesses.

I hadn't heard anything about that...but with the poor quality of their chicken and the ridiculous prices they charge for it...sounds like a step in the right direction! Anyone who has ever visited Das Dutchmen Essenhaus in Middlebury, Indiana will never want to eat chicken in Frankenmuth again!

I agree, but Frankenmuth lost its quaintness years ago. Over-commercialization has destroyed it, IMO. They used to have interesting shops -- now, each shop carries the same tourist-trap stuff as the next one.

We still go about once a year, but mainly just because it's a convenient day-trip getaway. The kids like it, too.
I agree with you about the chicken, BTW, but you've got to admit, the place is a GOLD MINE. For some reason, hundreds of people line up for hours every day to spend $14.95 on that cafeteria-quality food.
The Bavarian Inn is expanding by adding 45 more rooms and a water park
Zehnder's (this is the correct spelling, btw) and the Bavarian Inn are both owned by the Zehnder family. The Bavarian Inn Lodge (not in the same location as the restaurant) must be what's expanding, since the restaurant itself doesn't have lodging. The Lodge is next to the Bronner's Christmas store property, and there is available space there, as well as across the road at the Bavarian Inn farm for expansion. Frankenmuth is certainly somewhat of a tourist trap, but between all the attractions there and the huge outlet mall in nearby Birch Run, they sure do a lot of good business.
Isn't there a fuel stop (Freeway Fritz???) near there, on I-75 that does a better job than Zenders (sp?). Agree with the Das Essenhaus comment being superior to Zenders.
Zender's has long since expanded beyond just chicken dinners. I don't remember how long ago, but they build a golf course, The Fortress. A very nice course. I believe they even have a layout of the golf course on the landing halfway down the steps from the first floor dining rooms to the basement stores. As for a water park, there is a lot of farm land surrounding Frankenmuth where it might go. Hopefully it will be very nice and not too pricy.
