Carpet - NO! Dogs & kids - Yes!

Vinyl is so easy to keep clean. Our TT has Congoleum vinyl. We have runners that we put down in living area. Here's a tip - when you're storing your TT, turn the runners/mats over so rubber side is up. Sometimes the rubber backings will discolor the vinyl, especially in hot and sunny conditions.

We got carpet remnants fom our neighbor and cut them to put around the bed. Nice on the feet. When they finally get too grungy, we'll just cut another couple of pieces! I'm sure you could get cheap remnants from carpet places.

We bought an older TT that the carpet was only a few years old and very ugly. It was regular home type carpet. We bought commercial carper that has a very tight and short knap, you have a very hard time trying to even part the loops. We bought enough carpet that we had the carpet installers cut two sets of runners, three pieces each, that almost totally cover the carpet accept the bathroom. We took the runners to a gal who stitched the edges for $36 for each 3 piece set. They too look great.

When we get home from a weekend of camping, and we only boon-dock so we are always in the dirt and mud when it rains, the wife just lays the runners in the driveway and vacuums them off. The really dirty spots she spot-cleans with automotive upholstery and carpet cleaner. We have been in our share of mud this year and the runners look like they are still brand new. Very tough carpet. The carpet and runners looks like the day it was installed. I am sure the runners will last several more years easy, and when they start looking bad, we still have another set, and when they are worn down, we will start on the carpet it self. The carpet looks great in the trailer.

All in all, the carpet or runners should keep their "new" look for at least 10 years or longer.

Carpet and padding, $185. Installation, $125.00. Runner stitching, $72.00. Total $382.00, that’s only $38 a year for new and like new carpet.

my 71 TT came with NEON green carpet. but when I got it a couple years ago, it was more like puke green calico. I only know it was neon green before, cause the carpet is on the floor in the cabinets, under the beds, everywhere!

I cut along the edges of all the cabinetry with a utility knife, and ripped it all out! I got those stick on linoleum squares, i think i spent $35 all together. I primed the floor with the recomended primer, and shey stuck to the plywood floor like crazy!

now, people all over will tell you "oh those linoleum squares are garbage!" but this is coming from people who put it in their house! high traffic areas and years of full time use dont compare to the time you spend in your trailer. and, even though non of mine have popped up, or chipped or anything in the past year, I have quite a few left over from the job to patch any boo boos!

with that all said, we still loved the warm touch of carpet on those winter camping mornings. linoleum brings a chill to the tootsie toes! so I got a couple of those bathroom type rugs that have rubber backing. and when they get dirty you can toss em in the washer.

I LOVE MY LINOLEUM SQUARES! carpet in a small trailer (like mine) is a hassle!

---LINOLEUM---!!!

We have 2 labs and camp at semi-primitive sites. We are on our 2nd travel trailer with all linoleum. Carpet surely would have died a premature and ugly death. We just sweep once a day (or so ) while camping and it always looks nice.

I love having no carpet - in fact we ordered our trailer without. RVision puts lino throughout, with carpet over, so it was easy to just omit the carpet.

We pulled the carpet in our house years ago when our youngest DS was diagnosed with asthma and was crawling on carpet. We're never going back in the house, so I'm certainly not going to have it in our TT!

I thought about asking this same question once before.

We hate carpet. Even in our home. We only use throw rugs that can be machine washed.

One major reason we don't like carpet and insisted that our new TT have only linoleum.....

We were camping over Labor Day weekend....We had just finished lunch at the picnic table under the awning when I decided to go in and empty the trash before I went shopping. I noticed a small puddle under the trash can, and saw that a small stream of water was coming from under the wardrobe. Called to DH to come see what was happening. This man has every tool under the sun at home, but NOT ONE SCREWDRIVER in the camper!!!! UGH!!! By the time I ran to the office to get a screwdriver (and I mean ran...a total of 1 minute), the entire floor in the camper was covered with water!!!! We unhooked the water before it was too deep. The line from the intake to the water heater had pulled off (travel will get you every time). No big problem to fix, just about 30 soaking wet towels to deal with until I got home. Thank goodness I decided to bring extras!!!

Needless to say, had we had carpet, the floor would still be wet!

NO CARPET FOR US!!!! AND DH is getting CAMPER TOOLS for Christmas!

Hi

I just replaced all the carpets in my two year old trailer last month, contimplated the very same idea. After tearing out the poor quality carpet, I discovered that the manufacture also placed the vynial floor under the carpet, pretty standard RV construction. I could not just eliminate the carpet, my carpet was stapled down especially along the vynial transistion area leaving staple holes. I also spoke with local RV dealer and he recommended replacing the carpet especially under the slide area, he stated the carpet cushioned the movement of the slide out (flush floor type) otherwise movement would scrape or tear vynial floor covering.

So I purchased a premium plush carpet and pad and hired a professional carpet layer and what a difference, it really does make the trailer look great! We also went with a much darker color and it appears much richer looking and hopefully will wear a lot longer that previous carpets. We also took and made carpet runners for all the high traffic areas, had all the edges bound and that put the finishing touches on a relativily simple project.

My Frontier has linoleum which I like. I use area rugs to soften things up a bit. Looks really nice, I think.

I have lino. throughout. I added carpet (which still has lino. under it)to just the queen bedroom for us. Thought hard about putting it in the bunk room but decided to just put throw rugs down instead.

Both.

Linoleum is installed front-to-back, side-to-side. Carpet in the bedroom, and in front of the sofa. It's installed on top of the linoleum (which poses a problem if you remove it...).

On top of the linoleum and the carpet, cheap $2 multi-colored rag rugs from Walmart. We've got 18 of them in a 30 foot trailer...

Sure, they're a little ugly, but are easy to shake out, we can throw into the washer without worrying about the backing disintegrating, and because no two are exactly alike, we don't have to worrying about whether or not replacements will match the existing rugs.

Pergo sounds nice, but doesn't that add a lot of weight?...
