Would appreciate some feed back on those of you who have done tranny mods with BD power and ATS. Which one is the better one?? Trying to make a decision which one to go with. I have a 97 Dodge cummins 12 valve stock tranny. GVWR is 16000 truck weighs 6500 IM wanting to be able to tow a 5 er of 12000 with ease. Would appreciate anything you can tell me about ATS and BD Power.

If you want a top of the line transmission with advice/service a priority

Majority of TDR members also use DTT,but I suppose ATS/BD are ok.

ATS and DTT are said to be good transmissions by people who have them and have posted on various diesel websites.

Another very good transmission is Sun Coast. They have a loyal following as well. I'm having one of their transmissions installed in the next week or so. Their stuff is not cheap but you get what you pay for. You can visit them here.

I'll post an initial review in a couple of weeks.

As far as the ATS transmission goes, I have the stage IV which is built for heavy towing. Everything inside of the tranny has been rebuilt with stronger components. I like the way the new ATS transmission operates. It has a computerized control module on the dash which can be programmed for the torque converter to lock up at different speeds which is great for towing heavy. It also controls he exhaust brake to activate and shut off at different speeds, or you can turn it off completely (my wife’s choice when driving around town). We have climbed 6-7% grades out West at 100 degrees (towing heavy) and the transmission never worked up a sweat. With all the additional upgrades we did, we needed a strong transmission and the ATS hasn’t let us down. As you can tell here, we’re very pleased with our choice. The people out at ATS are very knowledgeable and very helpful when it came to upgrading to our needs.
