The poles on my Jayco's awning are horrible. The ends pop out on the tension rods and the vertical poles. Anyone out there have a solution? I tried recrimping the metal, but it didn't work.

Right now I can't afford a Carefree of Colorado awning so I need to make due.

Looks like they should be under warranty since you have 2004 model. take'm back to the dealer.

Of course if you bought from my dealer it will take some doing to get them to do anything.

Also contact JAYCO directly. That has helped me most.

It very much sounds like a warranty issue. My 2003 Jayco probably has the same awning poles as yours and I have not had any problems. As a matter of fact, when I hear (on this forum) of people having problems with their awnings I consider myself lucky since I have been very satisfied with my awning.
Good Luck....

These are some of the reasons I went ahead with the Carefree Supersport from the start. I would certainly think it would dbe a warranty issue.

Krazyjohnny,

We bought it from Lone Star RV on the Gulf Freeway and the Beltway. I picked up a new awning yesterday, but I would like to prevent this from happening again.

Lone Star has been VERY good about warranty issues.

Biznaga,

Thanks for the advice. I picked up the new awning yesterday and have already put it on. I'm just trying to prevent the same thing from happening again.

I wrote Jayco and email yesterday. I'll reply here with what they say.

Toby and Rita,

I sent you a message with instructions on how I resolved this (too long to post here). Some PVC fittings and less than an hour of fab work and they work wonderfully. This mod makes it a breeze for even one person to setup the awning. Let me know if you have any questions. Someday I'll take a picture of them.

Toby,

I had the exact same challenge. After the first end popped out, I changed the way I was setting up the awning and the other two never loosened. I realized that when I was setting up the awning, I would stress the ends when pulling against the poles that were spring loaded. Instead of pulling on the upright poles, pull on the spring loaded poles.

Another option that I was going to consider was welding the ends in place. I recently purchased one of those little wire welders and I had the option of buying aluminum welding wire. I am sure that you could take the poles to a local welder and have them welded or brazed on for a nominal fee. I would think that would be a permanent fix.

Thanks, John

Tllovell,

That is good to hear about Lonestar. I bought my trailer from them as well. I dealt with Earl Marquis there at the South (Gulf Freeway) store. I drove all the way from McKinney (288mi) to deal with them. I wish Earl had not been so greedy for the sale though. The norht store would have saved me about an hour of travel time each way and I could have stayed at a friends house instead of a motel.
