Hello all,

Perhaps someone can answer a question for me. I am thinking of traveling to Canada next spring (for some dog shows) and want to take the motorhome. I heard somewhere that Canada has width restrictions, and that the awning on my coach makes it too wide. ( 31' GBM Maverick, 100" wide w/o awning ).

So the question(s) - is this really the case, or is it not an issue? Can or do I need to get a special permit?

Thanks in advance for any insight that anyone can offer.

Brian

When we bought our RV from New York (last RV, not the Endura) they were satying that they couldn't send it up here with the awning on because of width restrictions. Every RV up here has and awning on, so no worries...just run it.

A NON-ISSUE.
Similar laws exist in the USA yet I have never read about or heard of ANYONE being charged/bothered/arrested/fined for it.
Your bigger concern will be having all papers etc in order for the dogs.

We had 8 foot wide gasser and now have 8.5 foot wide DP (neither widths included the awning). We too have heard the stories about restrictions in certain provinces and certain states.

We leave Texas in the summer and go either to Alaska or Newfoundland (alternating every year) since 2000. We have driven in most of the provinces with no problem at all. No one has questioned us on width EVER. I've heard also that no one bothers you until you have been in an accident and then width might factor in. We have decided to risk any consequences.

If you click on the picture (or text underneath) of the trailer in my signature, it should take you to the General Coach website where you can see that my trailer is 100" width as well. This one is made in Canada and I bought it here. So...although I'm no lawyer, I think you are pretty safe just to come on up and not worry about it.

I imagine you'd only ever run into trouble if you seriously pissed off an officer for some reason or another and he went looking for anything/everything (in which case most of us would probably have some infraction or another we could be cited for).

Constructive disagreement is encouraged. It is how I/we learn!

Hi Brian, If there is anything to worry about I would worry about having the proper paperwork for your dogs. The awning is a non issue.

Cheers and enjoy your trip to Canada,
