Plan to travel from Ft Lauderdale, FL to explore Canadian Maritimes.Nova Scotia, PE Island etc.
1. What are the must see areas ?
2. What to skip?
3. Do you use ferry from Maine or go inland thru Canada ?
I have 3 months total to travel. LOve scenery, natural beauty, sea food and my wife. Am dragging a 32 ft Holiday Rambler, the best rig I ever owned.

Can some one offer some tips. Timing is April, May JUne, can delay if required

Lots to see in all. Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia is beutiful. Hopefully you can be in and out of Nova Scotia within a couple of days as the province is RV unfreindly banning all RV's from overnighting anywhere other than a camp ground, including Walmarts. Cavandish, P.E.I is a must also. There are several good camp grounds there particularly Marco Polo RV Park. I am sure you will get lots of other great places to visit from other members. Good travels.

Pay no attention to lugnut.
The ban on parking outside campgrounds is no reason to short your trip to Nova scotia.

Here is a website that might help

http://www.destination-ns.com/

I think April is plenty early.

Hi Jack (jackops)

This thread will be moved to another forum; don't be upset when a moderator gets around to it.

I won't have much time before tomorrow evening. However, here is a link to a thread in which I describe our love for Cape Breton

There is much information in the archives. A tutorial on how to search is near the top of the Beginning RVing forum.

If you are coming that far with that much time, it would be a shame to miss Newfoundland. It has some of the most unique geography in North America and awesome people. Personally, I would drive from Maine as it provides immediate access to New Brunswick and then simple access to PEI. Then over to Nova Scotia and take the ferry to Newfoundland. The whole area is very interesting and a lot of fun. Newfoundland has whales, boat tours and even opportunities to view icebergs in summer temps. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

One word of advice from a Texan GO (another word GO)
If you can't afford campgrounds, what are you doing with an RV?
The scenery at Cape Breton is fantastic. Every time you make a turn it changes. Best to give yourself plenty of time. Take one day at Cape Breton going from East to West, and Then another day from West to East. We found the people just about as friendly as most Texans in small towns, maybe even more so. Normally we don't spend much time around large cities, but Halifax was one we truly enjoyed. Give yourself some time at the waterfront, you won't be sorry.
Make sure you see the reversing falls at St. John's, New Brunswick, and the tides at the Bay of Fundy. tides about 50 feet. truly different.
Have a good time, take your time, and enjoy.

We really enjoyed all of them as well as Newfoundland and Labador. We have a truck/camper so your rig will cost a lot on the ferry to Newfoundland and Labador. You will have to stay a long time to justify the expense. I would like to go back, but they aren't firearms friendly anymore.

jackops. Started this reply over 2 hrs ago, got interupted for supper. Did this trip for 3rd time this past fall. Suggest coastal highway (US 1) from Freeport up to Calais, with stops at Thomaston, (Maine Prison Store) at Rockland (the art museum with Wyeth collection, Farnsworth, I think), at Acadia NP, at Lubec, ( Roosevelt's place at Campobello). Then over to NB and St Andrews and then up to Fundy NP, nice campground with full HU and 50 A.. Then up to St John and the reversing inlet. I would do PEI, great spot, on the way home. Then up to Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail, clockwise . Start in Beddick, and do not miss the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. Might want to buy an annual NP pass if you are going to be in Cape Breton NP more than 10 or so days, forget break even point. Ask!. The road from Beddick to Cheticamp is horrible, the rest of the Cabot Trail is OK. Campgrounds at Cheticamp and Broad Creek are 1st class. See the Leport Collection at Les Trois Pignons building (they have hi-speed connection). Tour the west side and then around to Broad Creek Campground and tour the Atlantic side, including The Celtic Lodge Then down to Halifax, stayed a campground just up from Penny' Cove. Then over to Digby and wonderful campground at Parker's Cove, overlooking the Bay of Fundy. Beautiful view and good spot to tour Annapolis Royal, the gardens and the area..Then uo to Pictou and the ferry over to PEI You pay only when leaving PEI and the bridge is a bit cheaper than the ferry. So, come back on the bridge. 2nd best canpground at Murray Harbor, Seal Cove Campground, right on the sound with daily seal viewing, peace and quiet, small 9 hole golf course. It is isolated but we did our touring of the island from there. Could move up near Cavandish for better acess to pink sand beach. Have lunch at The Dunes. Back across the new bridge to NB, Houlton. Wait to buy fuel in the US if possible. Diesel was 91 crnts/ liter., Regular was 83 cents/liter. Now, Newfoundland is beautiful, if you haven't been, consider the trip, ferry is very expensive. For my rig the trip from Sidnedy to Argentia (long ride) was >$600 US and the short ride, Port-Au Basque to Sidney, $400 US. We had been before and just couldn't justify that expense. Came back to Bangor (stayed at My Brothers Place in Houlton), then across NH, do see and even drive up Mt Washington, onto VT, and Burlington on US 2. , then across Lake Champlain to Plattsburg and then I 87 to I 84 to I 81, home. Have a great time1.

horacebcupp has given you an excellent itinerary. The scenery along that route is spectacular. A couple of notes: 1) The campground on the east side of the park is Broad Cove instead of Broad Creek; 2) On the east side at the Celtic Lodge, there is a hike, the Middle Head Trail that I highly recommend.
