I get a plastic taste in the camper water. I drained it and use the white RV type hose to fill the tank with fresh water. I have used bleach and flushed it thoroughly a couple times and can't get rid of the taste. The water makes terrible coffee. Does anyone have experience with curing the problem .. Thanks...

Mine is almost 2 years old, and continues to taste like that. We just don't use the water tank water, to drink. If I needed it, i'd just put a filter at the facet, but here the water is so bad, we just used bottled all the time.

Add some vinegar. Really. This will take the bleach and plastic taste away. My wife told me to do this. And she was right.

Hey idcone,

How much vinegar should one add? Should one flush the tank with a mixture of vinegar and water or what? Your reply will be appreciated.

Make sure you use white vinegar. My wife cleaned our coffee maker with apple cider vinegar and it took forever to get that taste out!

I added one gallon to my 100 gallon tank. Let it sit overnight. Rinse and fill.

I use baking soda.
We don't drink the water though. I just want it to smell good when I take a shower.

We've found even RV "white" hoses can sometimes leave the GAAK taste even if the tank doesn't impart any "flavor". Our solution was a charcoal element filter hooked after the hose on the side of the trailer. If we had to fill the onboard fresh water tank we'd use a small hose section and the filter inline.
Even the best RV hoses can leak some chemicals over time if they get stored away with water in them especially if they get warm or hot.
Also a reason we try and dump the fresh water tank when leaving. Just that much less chance for any volitols left in the plastics to leach out over time.

You're going after the wrong aftertaste. Try attacking the bleach aftertaste instead of trying to neutralize the "plastic taste" and you might get some results. Bleach will sometimes leave an aftertaste you will swear is caused by the plastic water lines.

The vinegar trick works!! Also, my owners manual suggests using baking soda. I've never tried baking soda, but that is what Jayco recommends.

UPDATE...............

Last week, as per the suggestion of you folks, I dumped a gallon of white vinegar in the tank and topped off the water. After about 24 hours I drained and refilled. I tried it today and still no plastic taste..... I thank you all.........
