Hi,
We have a trip planned and are thinking about staying at Garner State Park in Texas? I have read lot of information on the park and have to admit I'm somewhat confused? Are the sites close together and cramped or out in the open or is it a bit of both? Where is the best loop to stay?
Is it really noisy and crowded or even so worth a stay?
I am a visual person and really love seeing pictures. Does anyone have pictures from Garner they could share?

Garner is a nice state park but will be crowded during the peak summer months. To me, the sites are packed in extremely close to each other in certain areas of the park, but not all. If you're trying to get away from people, this won't do. But if you're looking to socialize and have fun in the river and like to dance in the evening, this could be the place. I do have pictures of the river, but not sites within the park. PM me if interested.
Lost Maples is a short drive away. This is a smaller park, so it may be full. But it has many hiking trails for day hikes, some small ponds for cooling off in.
There are numerous RV parks within the area as an alternative to the state parks. Hope this helps.

Garner is one of the most visited state parks in Texas. I didn't feel the sites were unusually close, it's like most other Texas State parks. As the other poster said, it will be full most summer days. It really is an "institution" as Texas parks go. Lots of wildlife and some neat drives around the surrounding area of Texas.
I don't like being around a lot of people but it would be a definite for me just to experience the park.
Don't even think about getting in during the summer without a reservation.
