my last truck , '03 2500 Dodge/Cummins HO, with the Jacobs EB had 75000+ miles and the brake pads weren't even half gone yet and no burned rotors/pads and that was towing in the mountains with a 11200 GVWR 5er. Comming down Monarch Pass toward Gunnison with the EB on in 3rd and 4th gear I never needed to use the truck/trailer service brakes with 10950 lb 5er pushin' me. My truck was a manual tranny which let me use the EB in 1st through 6th and reverse if needed. I had a '01 2500 Dodge/Cummins with the 47RE and the old style Pacbrake that had 128000+ miles when I sold it and the brakes were never touched for any type of maintenance. Get a EB and you certainly will never regret it.

Do you folks utilize your Pacbrake when not towing too? In other words, does the Pacbrake enhance everyday, not towing or heavy payload-driving when you come to a stop or are going down grade and ease off the accelerator?
That is when the Pacbrake switch is activiated.

Better check out that price closely. The '05 48re is the one tranny that does not take an exhaust brake. With that said, I do believe PacBrake will tell you they have a solution but I know it's not 7-800 dollars.
As to warranty, talk to your dealer. Dealers vary GREATLY, some will not care about the mod others will not do any warranty work. Give 'em a call and see what they say.

The exhaust brake is left on 99.9% of the time. I believe you are only suppose to turn if off if the road gets really slick. I probably use my brakes at least 50% less than before the EB.

I dug into this subject pretty deep here on RV.net and on every diesel truck forum. After all the hunting the PAC seems to have a little better brake holding power than the Jake does. I starting looking around after filling I wasn't getting enough out of my Jake, and the way the orfice close's on the PAC is what seems to make it work better.
I went with the Jake Brake because it is a fully warrantyed item, there could be no BS'ing around by the dealers if something went haywire. It is a Cummins/Mopar part. I really like the Jake but would like a little more brakeing power if I can get it. If I keep this truck and as more miles are put on it I might switch to the Pac. I'm hoping to drive a truck with a Pac and just see how it really fills first.

As grantx5 says check that part number. When I bought mine I thought I was getting a super deal with installation at $1500. Turned out the new PXRB alone is about $1300 plus installation. I did get a super deal because due to the price of the PXRB I only paid about $250 for the install. Any other sales and installs by the shop that did mine will be paying about $1900.
The install only takes about 3 hours from what I have read but with the price I was quoted I let them do it. This was a independent diesel performance shop.
As for using it, I turn it off if it snows or a chance of ice, it is recommended to turn it off in the rain. This may be true in areas that get heavy rains but as it rains here all the time I haven't had a problem.

a exhaust brake won't actuall stop your vehicle at the red light as the service brakes will ne required although with the manual tranny and going down through the gears it workd in granny [1st] and is all but stopped. The Jacobs and the Pacbrake both have the same retard hp [180] at max rpms which is limited by the valve springs [60 lbs]. One thing I've noticed using the EB on two manual trannys and one 47RE is the manuals have complete controll in all gears compared to the auto trannys 2nd/3rd/OD only. If the EB will activate in 1st would be a great help. Maybe the newer software programs, that keep the TC clutch locked, include 1st now.
The EB can be used any time you activate the switch and works great in heavy traffic when running empty.

I would check with Jacobs first. I bet your EB can be more aggressive.

If you find one for the 2005 Dodge Automatic....buy it then let me know if you got it to work. I called jac and pacbrake and they both told me that they wouldn't work on the 05 auto trannys.......Did they finally make one to work???
