02super250 wrote: whats the average mileage and any major problems with them? Thanks in advance
I have a 2008 6.4 250 fx4 and love it. Quiet and pulls excellent. Have had some problems, being a rad (recall), exhaust pipe at back of motor having to remove cab, drive shaft, and a fan switch relay. Mine is a very very Early build. It has now 40000 miles on it. Pulling around 11-12 imperial mpg, empty 15.5-18 imperial mpg.
Went to northern mi a month ago with a 05 dodge, both left full, both pulling 4 bed enclosed snowmobile trailers, pulled up to the fuel pump and thought this is going to be bad as I know the cummins is known for fuel mileage and mine is a fuel hungry ford. I filled up to the fuel tank ran over, as did he, within 50 cents of each other. Next stop, 300 miles later I took 2.50 more but had to wait for them for approx. 15 min for they had trailer issues. Next stop on way home within 1.50. So I guess on 800 miles the 6.4L is a real fuel hog taking a hole $4.50 worth of diesel more than the 05 cummins. Also we had a chance to let them go and had NO trouble walking by him at a steady pace, don't know about from a dead stop but at 60mph plus no comparison. This is my observance, others may very but all in all very happy with the truck.

Mine has about 13,000 on it. Generally get 12-14 pulling TT (about 8K lbs.) and 11-12 around town. (Yes, I get better mileage towing than around town) Pulling Boy Scout trailer (about 4k), I only get 10-11. That trailer is a horrible trailer to pull, has the areodynamics of a large rock.

I had the 6.4 and at 25,000 miles I would have told you it was the best truck ever. At 33,000 milles I traded it in on a Chevy 2500HD 6.0 because twice the Ford spent a week in the shop.
Can't afford the down time. Mileage wasn't all that great and the twin turbo etc. was starting to scare me since I already had the cab off once for 2 oil leaks and lost a week while Ford found me an ERG, seems they are hard to find due to frequent failures.
Really tho this isn't a Ford rant, all the diesels with the DPF seem to have problems. Frankly the technology needs time to mature. I was sorry to see it go, but the Chevy 6.0 gets the same mileage ( honestly, the difference is about 1mpg at best ) The design is tried and true and the power is amazing.
I think I'm done with the diesel fever, lol.

A big ol' guy named Ken just jumped in the fox hole down the ridge from me trying to avoid the barrage of buck shot for blasphemy unto the creator Rudolph Diesel. A fair tithing for the deaconship is a small price to pay for the privilege of towing in (angels singing) O/D!
Our F550 flat bed at work so far is doing well at just under a year old. I'm sure the mileage smells of rotted cabbage. Our delivery driver has no mercy... definitely severe service. Far better than the 6.0 PSD shop flies it replaced.

Usually the guy's that chip don't feather the throttle. There is info on chipping at the link below that might help. Lots of folks are buying programers.
