My jacks don't have a drive-off warning, so I use a visor hang tag similar to the ones used as antenna up reminders. Jacks go down, the tag goes on...

we don't have drive off auto nothing. We have a alarm that sounds if the key is on and the jacks are down. But if I forget to check if they are all the way up I don't want to know what damage it will cause. I to have a hang tag that is a check list for most things before you go. And the walk around must always happen............

I would have to be completely deaf because my "jack down" alarm is a most annoying noise, and it drives my dogs to distraction also.

I did drive over a parking bumper once (with the jacks retracted), and ripped off one of the springs, as well as doing other damage. My wife has never let me forget that.

The best defense is a walk around, as others have said. Never be in a hurry to leave.

Before you criticize someone, always walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you DO criticize them, you will be a mile away, and have their shoes.

Have 'almost' done that, my 06 Southwind immediately began retracting the jacks, plus some kind of beep to go with it, woke me up and slowed me down too. No harm done.

Most mhs have a switch on each jack that keep the transmission from engaging unless all jacks are fully up.

NO MOTORHOME HAS ANY SUCH SWITCH!!!!!
Some brand jacks (Powergear hydraulic is one model) have a Auto retract that will activate once the Emergency Brake is released AND the unit is put in drive. But you can still put it in gear and you can take off and damage the jacks before they have a chance to auto retract. HWH has no such auto-retract system. Doug

So, "what would have happened"?. You would have started forward and depending on how much lift the jacks supplied and how hard you hit the accelerator, you would have heard a LOUD grinding/scraping sound and the motorhome would have lurched forward and you possibly would BEND or break the jack cylinder mounts on some or all of the jacks. If you had electric jacks, the odds are you would have destroyed all 4 jacks.

Beg to differ, My HWH will auto retract if Park Brake Released or Gearshift put in gear. Not sure how you can say "No Motorhome" unless you are an expert at all brands etc etc.

Oh absolutely, I agree with you and DonDon, I don't trust the indicator lights on the leveling panel so while the unit is airing up, I get out and do a walk around. Never found the jacks down but I did manage to retrieve a 30ft dog leash from the awning frame once.

The HWH systems we installed at Rexhall had a jack-down alarm when you turned on the key.

My coach has a alarm too. It still does not stop you from moving forward. The best way to describe what would happen is to say its a "OH ****" situation.

Don't Forget.
