AndreC,

I follow the Honda procedures for towing. I usually drive less than 8 hours in a day, normally 5 or 6 hours. At the start of the second day I let the engine idle for 30 minutes and it still depleted after the second day of towing.

I run a 12V circuit breaker protected 12G wire from my MH to both of my Hondas battery terminals.

We have an 07 CRV with NAV that is our towd. We also use a Brake Buddy, with sensitivity set so it only activates with hard stops. When we first started towing the CRV, I called Honda tech people in CA and asked about pulling fuse as it is in a real inconvenient place and I did not want to reset any memories lost with no power. The peson (technician?) I talked with said that if the car was towed more than 7-8 hours between battery recharge the fuse should be pulled. We now are approaching 20,000 miles of towing with no problems. We run the car when we stop for lunch to recharge and then redo the transmission and Brake Buddy setup. It is also started and run for 15 minutes or so each evening, whether we are unhooked or not, and again in the morning before leaving. Brake Buddy is unhooked at night. Only problem we ever had was when some dummy left the tranny in N overnight and the ignition in ACC. I had to use the battery charger in the morning. After a quick charge/start I just left the car run until our first rest area stop about 30 minutes later. I think the charge wire from the coach batteries is the best answer - will probably do that during winter down time this year. But until now have not had any issues. Good luck.

Is it possible to have an internal air leak thats causing the compressor to run more than normal?

I spoke with Brake Buddy this morning. They sell a battery maintainer that charges the battery while you tow. It costs $24.95 and requires one 12 volt wire from the coach to the toad battery. Here is a link:

Toad Charger

Has anyone used this?

Brake Buddy draws from the CR-V's battery, that's why it's plugged in the aux power socket. Either start and run the toad more often or run a charge line from the MH (be sure it's fused).

The Brake Buddy only draws current when it is filling the air chamber or activated. Most of the time it is doing neither. It is more than the Brake Buddy that is draining the battery.

that would be my guess too. my jump start battery is not that large and I have never had a problem. before I started using a jump start battery I evidently left my radio on and some other stuff and my tracker was DOA.

A friend of mine has 08 CRV that requires him to pull a fuse (#34 I think) if he does he does not go dead if he does not he goes dead. Do what your manual requires you to do.

The Honda manual says to pull the fuse only if you have the Nav system. I do not have the Nav system so I have no need to pull the fuse.

I have ordered the battery charger devise from Brake Buddy. This unit should keep the battery charged while towing.
