I'm thinking of getting this new Asus EeePC. My laptop is about 10 years old I could use a new little netbook for mobile use and doing things my computer is too old to do anymore cause it won't read new programming, like put new pics on my Photobucket pages. What do you all think of this little computer? It sells for about $350 most places I have seen it for sale.

My supervisor just bought one a few weeks ago, he now wants one with a bigger screen. I have one, use it in the MH just to monitor the engine and trans with VMSpc. Works great for that, just too small a screen for very much work.
Just bought a Gateway NV52 today to replace my 5 year old 17" laptop. The Gateway has a 15.6" screen and I do notice the smaller screen. It's much better looking though. I mostly do website setup and design with Photoshop CS3 and MS Expression so most of my time is spent transferring files over the internet.

DW bought that one a few weeks ago. She loves it as it fits her needs perfectly. Battery life is great, b/g/n wireless connectivity works excellent compared to my older b/g Dell notebook. She paid 299 shipped no tax on a one day special. Only complaint is the glossy case sure picks up fingerprints.

I have had one for about 2 years now.
It is an awesome little computer. Linux OS - 4 gig flash memory for HD space. No moving parts. If you need an optical drive, carry an external USB drive. Mine has a webcam built into the lid too.
I take it with me when I fly to various locations and want to travel light.
WIFI connectivity is a breeze. I have never had an issue connecting That little EEE will do everything my full size laptop will do. Pull it out in coffee shops, airports, buses or wherever you happen to be.
If you want more storage, carry a 2 1/2" HD in an USB enclosure case. All the storage you need. Or a couple flash drives to put pics and things on.
Battery life is good. It is compact, yet the screen is big enough to use comfortably without going cross-eyed trying to look at it.
The Linux OS is a bit awkward at first if you have never used it but it is easy to figure out and navigate.
I know some of the newer ones come with a bigger storage capacity and XP but I like mine the way it is.
All in all, I give it a big double thumbs up.

If your old laptop is indeed 10 years old then the Asus EeePC is probably 10 times more powerful and you will not regret the purchase.
Congrats on getting 10 years from your old one

I have the Asus 1000HE which has Bluetooth. I would highly recommend this model as you can use wireless GPS with this unit. I would also recommend that you install an additional 1GB of Ram which will help with processing multiple functions such as E-Mail and internet access at the same time. The He model can be purchased for about $360.00.

Highly recommended, I have a 13" tablet computer that I've pretty much relegated to desktop use only since getting my Asus 1005HA-P a few months ago. The screen on the Asus is small, but perfectly useable, as is the keyboard, etc. Only big "problem" are the fingerprints on the glossy finish, and I'm told a coat of Meguiars car wax will fix that, but I haven't tried it yet.
A couple of misconceptions in the above posts:
1. Re: Linux and the 4GB flash memory, that must be a different model-- the 1005HA comes with Windows XP Home and a hard drive (160GB or 250GB). Note, there's no free upgrade to Windows 7 from XP, but you can buy a model with Windows 7 Starter instead of XP if you want to (I have no experience with Windows 7, so don't know if that's a good move or not).
2. You don't have to switch to the 1000HE to get Bluetooth-- the 1005HA-P (which I have) comes with bluetooth, a travel sleeve, and a 10.5 hour battery (that's not an exaggeration, either). The regular 1005HA (which my wife has) doesn't have the bluetooth or travel sleeve, and has a battery that will go for 8.5 hours.
I would recommend you upgrade the memory to 2GB. It's less than $30, can be installed by even the mechanically challenged (like me) in less than 5 minutes, and it makes a noticeable difference in performance. I have 2GB; my wife has 1GB, I just haven't gotten around to ordering the upgrade for hers yet.

I've had an Asus Eee !000HE for about 6 months and love it except for the slightly-smaller keyboard slowing down my touch-typing. I use it for internet (e-mail, forums, and research) and for games when on the road. Battery life is great, response is fast. Mine has a hard drive, XP Home, Bluetooth, and wi-fi. Plenty of USB ports. An SD card port. It came with a soft case. The only thing I have added besides software is an optical mouse.
I bought mine thru Amazon.com. Some reviews located in my netbook research said to watch out for Best Buy, which has a slightly different model that is not as good.

Good point, my understanding is that the battery that comes with the 1005HA-B version of the 1005HA (sold at Best Buy) is only good for 4 hours-- and at the time we were shopping for our first eeePC, they wanted $30 more for that one than Amazon was charging for the model with the 8.5 hour battery (not to mention no tax and free shipping).
IMHO, the best deal is the 1005HA-P. Neither the Best Buy nor the "base" model sold by Amazon has built-in Bluetooth, and the -P model adds that, along with the 10.5 hour battery, and the travel sleeve. Well worth the few extra bucks, to me.
BTW, the Asus DVD drive they sell for these things is nice, too. It comes with a cord that goes into two USB ports simultaneously (one for power and one for data), so you don't have to carry a separate AC adapter.

Thank you all very much for your comments and information!
Yes, I do intend to get the extra GB of ram memory for it.
Yes, I want to get the one with the 10 hour battery and all the good stuff on it. These things are so cheap that I don't mind going for the top of the line model. I paid $2K for the computer I have now and it's amazing how much more you can get for your money these days!
Thanks for the heads-up on the Best Buy model. I was thinking of going there to check them out. They had some really really tiny ones at Circuit City but they were just too small for me.
Can I get one of these with Linux operating system? I'm NOT a Microsoft fan AT ALL. I've been putting up with Windows on this computer for the past decade and on my previous computers for half a decade before this one and I really, really don't want another Windows computer!
My old computer is still working, I'm typing on it now. I'll still use it for internet browsing, as it has a very nice 14" screen, I just need a more up to date computer to use for my business tasks and something smaller and more easily portable. I got this laptop thinking I would take it places, but it's kinda big and I never take it anywhere except once in a while to another part of the house. The battery life is very short too.
