You can look at the specs in the owners manual to see if it says anything about storing in cold or heat. But just think about all the RVs in storage and on dealers' lots and I have never read about TV damage from cold or heat. For me, I would let the TV warm up a bit before turning it on.

George,
I have been told that liquid crystals can freeze and break, under extreme cold conditions. I have also been told thast there are some models that are considered "all weather" which don't have these issues.
As far as LED or plasmas, I don't think they have issues with cold, however, if condensation is a possibility, then they should be allowed to assume room temperature.

I don't think there is an issue with the cold weather. The only thing I know about is you are not supposed to lay them down on front or rear, they should be in the upright position.

Our's came with two LCD flat-screens installed within cabinets so I never plan on taking them out. They sat fine thru -20/-30 degrees last winter without issues. See no reason to take them out.

Check with the manuf. for the specific type of display.
I have had LCD units in both laptops and TV's show no effects after several years of cold storage (down to 10-20F). The colors can take a few minutes to come fully "alive".

The shipping containers that they travel in from overseas are not heated or climate controlled, we handle thousands of them. Given that the screen is LCD it would probably help to let it warm up to somewhere above freezing before powering it up. I now see digital billboards along the roads, wonder if they have winter heaters?

Digital billboards and other digital outdoor signs are almost always arrays of LEDs, which generate sufficient heat to stay in their operating temperature range during winter. LCDs are not used for outdoor displays, they don't compete well with sunlight.
To the original question, most LCD panels have a storage temperature range that covers winter and summer. It might be wise to check the label on the set about operating temperatures, the range is narrower than storage temperatures. Most household electronics will have restrictions about operating in condensation.

Cold will not hurt them but they do like to be warm when in use.
