Just got new tires installed.

Tire shop said that they could not do the alignment due to the fact that they could not get the wheels to rotate freely... ???

The also stated that they detected a warped rotor on the test drive.

I had an issue in the past with sticking brakes and the brake system overheated. I let it sit and hour and the symptom vanished. A subsequent visit to my repair facility was inconclusive.

This time they are thinking master cylinder. It seems like it is not always the same wheel sticking. The drive to the tire shop there was a whop-whop noise, but it was not pulling to one side or the other, and of course the noise went away about a mile from the shop.

Has anyone else had a similar issue ?

It is a 2003 Holiday Rambler.

We have a 665 mile trip planned starting next Tuesday for Thanksgiving.

Is your brake pedal pulsating when you apply the breaks? If so, you have a warped rotor and probably a sticking caliper as well.

It is not unusual for water to get past the weather boot on the caliper and start rust forming in the caliper body especially behind the piston seal o-ring. This rust growth puts excessive pressure on the piston o-ring and the piston won't retract properly. Usually a disassembly and rust cleaning will fix it. New seal kits are inexpensive.

They found warped rotors, the left worse than the right. New front brakes are being installed, including rebuilding the calipers.

Sorry to say, but warped rotor diagnosis is almost a scam. It rarely happens on light trucks. What really happens is uneven brake pad deposits, which feels like warped rotors.

Calipers do not stick because of the master cylinder. Usually it's in the caliper assembly, and happens on rigs that aren't driven a lot.

Phenolic pistons in the calipers have distorted due to overheating. Ford quit using phenolic pistons only after a few years. The rebuilt calipers won't have them...

I would suggest checking whether the brake fluid is still liquid.

On my (much older) 26' Class C, I had a problem with the back brakes remaining on and overheating. It turned out the the high under-hood temps of the 460 had boiled off the volatile compounds in the brake fluid to the point that it looked like maple syrup outside in Alaska in January. It had made its way into the rear brake cylinders and gummed them up so bad that the return springs couldn't release the brakes.

Max speed on level ground was only about 45 mph! New master cylinder and rear actuator cylinders (and about $400) solved the problem. Fortunately, the goop hadn't made it into the front brake calipers, though the master cylinder fluid for them was pretty bad, too, so flushing out those lines was enough.

The (front) Calipers were still sticking. They are being replaced.

What happens is the brake fluid gets moisture in it and this is transfered to the caliberss and eventually the moisture causes rust and gum which in turn fails the brakes . Happens all the time.

I always try to change brake fluid twice a year. No Problems.

I had the same problem on my 2002 E450. The problem is the lack of use, plus water in brake fluid. It cost me a set of bearings and new hub.
