Get a H1N1 Flu shot! Go online and find out where clinics and Hospitals are giving them near you.

I'm retired, but I currently do volunteer work at a major Southern California Medical Center Trauma Hospital...this flu stuff is SERIOUS!

Recently a Medical Show video taped a conference of 700 Doctors from around the USA regarding the H1N1 flu, and when they taught and warned the Doctors about face touching, they reported that of the 700 Doctors at the Conference, over half during the training had touched their faces, mouth or noses while sitting there. Break every habit you may have as far as touching your face, scratching your nose, picking your teeth, licking your fingers after eating a gooey food item, rubbing or picking your nose....don't touch your face! This is the #1 way this flu spreads. Droplets from direct contact with an infected persons sneeze is #2. Avoid close contact to other people when possible, in crowded situations. When you or anyone around you should sneeze, the mantra should be "sneeze into your sleeve...not your hand". If someone in the Hospital openly sneezes, several others will remind them to cover it up! Loudly!

Wash your hands frequently, hot water and soap, sing the "Happy Birthday" song (hopefully silently) 2 times while washing. Use the Antiseptic Hand gel if hand washing not available. Use the hand gel after using public facilities, shopping carts, door handles, etc.

Stay healthy, eat right, get a good sleep at night, fresh air. Try to avoid, if possible Doctor Office or Hospital visits. When in public, feel free to wear a hospital type mask, you may feel silly or conspicuous, but if you have pre-existing health issues, do it!

Overweight (morbidly obese)people be especially careful. These are the folks that are dying, some in their 30's. 35% of the persons that have to be Hospitalized with "Swine Flu" H1N1 have asthma. And if you are an older adult, get a Pneumonia Vaccination as well. Safe and it covers you for up to 20 different types of Pneumonia. And 1 out of 20 persons who contract Pneumonia WITH the flue die! The flu will weaken your defence system and things such as Pneumonia and Congestive Heart Failure will be what actually put you into a grave.

Please be careful and you won't have to worry about it! God Bless!

Well guesss what? In my part of the country they won't give you a shot unless your at risk, or a hospital worker.. I just asked my Dr a couple days ago.. But the Wife and I do get the regualer flu shot..

And I always carry a bottle of hand antiseptic gel with me.. It seems I'm getting more phobic about door handles in public places in my old age.. Plus I never have been one of those people that is always putting there fingers in their mouth trying to pick their teeth or what ever.

Well, World Health Organization this morning came out with statement that the Pig Flu appears to have peaked in the western countries, and the overall morbidity seems to be on a par with the usual year's seasonal flu.

Main difference seems to be that it affected a younger population than usual, and was a little earlier in the season.

By the time the pig flu shots are disseminated, it'll be pretty much be over.

I guess we can stop panicking till the next dire warning of something comes out.

USA has 300 million people 51 million shots now, they had to start with risk people first. I'm hoping the freeze will kill some of the airborn particles. Did you notice that US drug companies did not make any, as they did not want law suits, and foreign drug companies probably would not be subject to US courts. That's going to cause more deaths, due to the US legislation not limiting suits. More problems on the general heath care cost due to law suits also will cause insurance fees to go up.

Grandson had it last week woke up at 4 AM with head ache, fever, and throwing up. Daughter took him to the doctors that morning and by 6 PM he was over it. According to the grandson doctor 90% of people do not get seriously ill from the flu. The grandson has asthma and did not get the shots.
My feelings are to make themself look important the health organizations have to give us the doom and gloom just like the goverment does.

I don't know if I should try to get one or not. One Dr said yes you are a risk and the other I just went to yesterday said NO!! Guess I'll wait and see how the government works out the shortages.

News today does look like the H1N1 threat is receding in most states, but that doesn't mean it is over.
When my daughter was in the hospital last month, the only health care workers/ hospital employees not wearing masks were the ones who had already had their H1N1 vaccinations.
This makes me think that people who should know are taking this seriously, so that is probably the way to go.

The other day I went to a Hospital ER for my head injury and noticed a employee at the main entrance, opposite entry to the ER entry, she was administering a hand antibacterial agent to all who entered, no one was doing it at the ER entrance, I always use my sleeves to hold on and open doors but did feel uncomfortable being there, When I left I washed my hands and face with a hand wipe antibacterial wipe. I carry a pocket full all the time. Bill

I for one appreciate the information and would CERTAINLY get a shot if one was available (just like I do the seasonal flue each year) but after running a dozen or so clinics and they still are limiting only to the same groups. It's beginning to look like I won't have a vaccination available any time soon. AT LEAST the pneumonia vaccine is available so getting that one is a great idea for anyone who hasn't already done so.

The paranoia about vaccinations in the US has caused the health officials to NOT use the extender used in most of the rest of the world, meaning that the number of doses required is doubled so rather than returning unused doses to third world countries as most are doing we still have a shortage. Sometimes behaviors in the US are REALLY hard to understand

Here's a link to another story related to the danger of this flu'
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091120/ap_on_he_me/us_med_swine_flu Seems that this flu is now starting to mutate into a medication resistant form.

First thank you for the information which is all good. The problem I am having with the flu vaccine, by the time it will be available to me the flu season will be almost over if not over. The rate of production, my age and no serious health problems, puts me at present rates of immunization around Feb. or March next year.

So given your first hand knowledge does one get the immunization or not?

A bit of frustration with the whole process.

Happy Trails
