I have the 50 AMP Smart Energy Mgt System and it appears to be working fine when the generator is on, but when on Shore Power it no longer tells me what amperage my MH is using.

I called the company and Customer Service said they did not know. Do any of you who have the same type of system know whether or not the Amps being used should appear when on shore power? This is handy to know, especially when on a 30 amp system like some RV parks have.

dllfo . . .

Are you sure it doesn't indicate current when on 30 amps? The reason I ask, is ours ONLY indicates current on 30 amps. It simply "indicates" when we're on 50 amps (or the generator) and doesn't show actually amperage, UNLESS, we are on a 30 amp feed. Admittedly, ours is a different coach builder and may have a different system, but many different builders use the same EMS.

Ours doesn't indicate current "level" when on 50 amps.

Mine shows. It is a very important tool for me since I only have 30 amps at the post. You should be able to download a schematic for the system online. Seems strange they couldn't help you.

Not sure if this is model you have. sction 7 and 9 shows some of the troubleshooting. I would check the connectors on the main unit. Pay special attention to J6 connector. Disconnect shore power while working on unit.

I believe most of the newer 50 amp mgmt systems only show a current draw number when the generator is running, or when you are hooked to shore power less than 50a. It should show when you're hooked to 30a shore power.

Your post is unclear as to whether you've tried to hook it up to 30. You would know because you need an adapter for your power cable to hook to 30.

The reason is you should be able to turn everything on when on 50a shore power without exceeding the available amperage. Obviously, it's nice to be able to monitor it when you're on any other source.

I have been a few places with only 30amps and the unit showed me my power consumption rate.

It is an excellent point that a 50 amp hookup allows us to use almost any of our appliances, etc. without exceeding 50amps. THAT may be the answer. And yes, I have a 30amp adapter for my 50 amp cord.

Thanks for the link to the Service manual. I downloaded it, read it, and still don't see a specific answer to my original question. It is really good to have that manual though.

The company technicians appear to be there for dealers or manufacturers that use this product. I hung up on that line and called their customer service. That lady said she did not know the answer and gave me the phone number of a man who apparently does work on this equipment. I did not call him yet. I thought I would ask the forum if they knew the answer.

In summary, I think our unit provides power consumption rates when on 30 amps and 50 amps from the generator.

Does that answer your questions??

dllfo:
Did you get the exact model number off your main unit?
Please post as some have different manuals.

Same here! If on 50 amp no display but on gen or 30 amp it shown the total amps being used.

I just remembered mine does show current usage when on generator. I ran mine up to 66 amps the other day trying to put the heaviest load onto the system. The breaker of the generator finally tripped. They are rated ate 35 amps each leg so I can run 60 amps probably continuously with the generator.

You have an Intellitec EMS system. IF you are on full/true 50 amp service, the amp readout does NOT function. It only gives an amp readout when on cheated 50 amp or 30 amp or Gen set. here is the link to the manual. Doug
