Hey gang,
I don't know if you have seen this already (I posted it some time ago), but so far nobody has expressed any interest in a wine tour. You're more than welcome to do one on your own, but we thought we would see what we could set up and leave the driving to someone else. I need to know ASAP if you're interested. Read on...
Wine tour
We have planned out a wine tour to the following:
Most have free tasting, but those marked with * charge $5, but that is applied to any wine purchase.
We will leave the campground at 9:45am
1. Barrel Springs Winery (10-11am)
2. Kestrel Vintners Winery * (11:15-1:15, tour & lunch). The tour is conducted by a "wine master" and there will be some wine tasting right from the barrel.
Lunch will be picnic style...we'll bring the sandwich fixin's and chips...you provide your own beverage.
If you finish early, a short walk away is... 3. Mercer Estates *
--Tasting rooms -- (1:20-2:45)
(the following are all at one location and we have allotted 1.5 hours to spend here, but if folks are done early, we'll move on)
4. Alexandria Nicole Cellars *
5. Blue Flame Spirits (vodka, gin)
6. CowanVineyard
7. Heavens Cave Cellars *
A short walk away is... 8. Hogue Cellars
2-8 are within walking distance of each other if you want to walk it, just be back in time to catch the bus to...
Downtown Prosser
9. C&C Vintage Cellars (3-3:45)
10. Hinzerling (4-4:45)
Back to camp at 5.
The cost for the tour is $30 per person, plus a tip for the driver, plus whatever you want to spend at the various locations. We need a minimum of 13 people to sign up to keep the cost at $30 per person. If fewer than 13 sign up, the cost will go up. If more than 13 sign up, the cost will go down. I'll keep you updated on which way the price is going as the rally gets closer.
To sign up for the wine tour, send me a PM (by clicking here) with the names of who's going. I will reply back with my address for you to send the $30 per person to. I need to know as soon as possible who would like to go to make sure there is enough interest. If there is, i have to make a reservation with the bus company by April 1st.
There are a few tasting rooms just down the street (5-10 minute walk) from the campground. More were supposed to built over the summer and fall, so hopefully they will be open by the time we get there, but we're leaving these up to you to visit, so come early.

David,
We are starting to put together our tentative route back to the wet side of the mountains from the sunny south. Since the rally is in eastern WA. I think we may make it. I can handle eastern WA. that time of the year, but not the wet side yet!! IF we make it, we would be very interested in the wine tour. I'm surprised that Big Dog hasn't jumped in for it.
Carolyn is up in Fed. Way - her son underwent neurosurgery to remove a tumor from his spinal cord on Mon. (Everything is looking good so far) I will talk to her about the rally and tour when she gets back and attempt to get more specific about our committment.
I'm currently down in Yuma. Going out tomorrow (Thur.) with Tradewinds on one of his patent jeep runs in the desert! Looking forward to it.

I'm not sure about the wine tour as we're gonna be hitting the rally on the way back from our trip to Iowa and I either won't be able to afford any wine tasting,or I'll already have a MH full by the time we get there.

Wow, Bigdog, you must know something about midwest wine that I'm not aware of!! Choosing it over any Washington wine?!?

Well Bigdog, I'm surprised you'd pass up ANY chance for some Washington wine, but I'm betting your MH is gonna be packed pretty tight by the time you get to Prosser.

I didn't say that I might not buy some washington wines there. And yes,I do know where there are several wineries between here and there and back. There are a couple in Rapid City and a couple around where #2 son lives. What I'm looking forward to is that we'll be going thru La Mars,Iowa, the ice cream capital of the world and the home of my favorite,Blue Bunny Ice Cream....

I want to thank Ron for coming over for a visit. We had a very good jeep run at places I had not been before. A few times we had to get out and figure out how we were going to attack a hill or rock but Ron never said, "I will walk Bob" so it was a good trip. The big deal was finding a very old stash of dynamite at an old mine site. The company went of busines in 1912 so its some old stuff. Someone will take the explosive disposal team out there today and they can play.
Bigdog bought some more wine up at the winery in Moab..

Do remember the Big Red wine from that winery up the river and canyon outside of Moab.

I do have a "Kidd Red" left..I also have a bottle of "fire hydrant red" from Dogtails winery.Got it at a benefit for our new dog park.
Had one of those moments where something was nagging at my mind, not the DW this time,so I thought about double checking on whether or not I had paid for my site at the rally. I just called them and guess what,I hadn't and the nice lady,Kelly(?) took my money anyway. So now we're good to go.
Gotta go up and hook up the money-pit and take it to the shop and get the seal around the front slide replaced. Found wet carpet and ran the slide out and found it was splitting from the bottom. I guess that's what you get for trying to keep it working right as I just put seal lube on it during the nice weather last week...
Just got back from the shop. The seals are ok...For now...The leak is in the drivers side window and the water runs down the wall and under the carpet..That's what I love about water leaks... They're never where you think they are...
