Anyone know of or heard of a place to stay a few days in a 33'DP with Jeep?

Just looked on the Church updates and seems the hotel place is closed.

We KNOW from past experience that we can't do Palenque to Hogar Infantil in one day in this rig, and we would like to spend a day or two in San Cristobal.

It's beginning to look like we may have to back track miles west from Villahermosa and take the 180D from near Coatzacoalcos.

(We are currently heading to the Yucatan Peninsula then to the west coast.

I've got nothing specific to offer, but we've been known to stay at some Pemex's for up to a week (waiting for parts once and just exploring the local town on other times). These Pemex's are like our Flying J, Love's, or Pilot truck stops. There is normally a large fenced lot behind the gas station with a gatekeeper at the entrance. The charge is around $50p/nite. They normally have a restaurant, convenience store, showers, etc connected to it. It can be a little noisy but safe (roving patrol 24/7) and clean. You can also get your rig washed at some sites.

I think I've got a link to a Pemex website that lists where these truck stops are. I'll post it if I can find it. But be forewarned, it's in Spanish.

There are some large supermarkets. One is right across the street from that hotel. I would not be comfortable in that area leaving my unit during the day. NOthing to do with drug cartels just not a place where I have felt secure. There could be a large Pemex in that area but most are smaller. Might be worth trying that hotel in case something has changed. It sure was convenient.

Buenas Dias Aturo. Is there any chance you can find a back way into Rancho San Nicolas" RV Park

GPS Location: 16.73417 N 92.62167 W

The park is well situated and would easily acomodate your rig. The problem is the normal route in involves some narrow streets (we had to pull in the mirrors at a couple of points. A bunch of locals there told us there was a good road in from the highway that did not go through the city but we never found it. Anybody know anyone there who can help us out??

here are a few pictures of the way in and the park itself.

Here is a shot of the street you have to go in on through the normal route. If you can handle it then you are good to go.

and here is a link to our San Cristobal website page.

Hi John and Angela, yes a back way in would be good! We are still a week or two away so maybe we'll get lucky.

Don't want to take a chance and get stuck in an uncomfortable location like the Chedraui Moisheh mentioned.

See you in Z this year?

Yes,Qtla9111, Bonampac is closed according to all reports.

I included the coordinates for the campgound hoping that would aid you in finding an alternate route in using better maps than we have. I think it is as simple as following the road that we came in on back to the highway. It becomes gravel at the gate but I was told it was good. We walked part of it but not far enough to the find the highway.

Re coming to Zihuat this year, we have made the difficult decision to limit our travel until Gizmo is gone. He can only be alone 3 o4 hours at a time now and doesn't travel well. He is 16 going on 130 and we owe him some loyalty at this point. We didn't think he would make it to this point and everyday is a gift. We are currently on our property in Palm Springs and other than 3 or 4 shorter excursion this year we will be staying put. I have a couple of courses on the go so I will keep busy doing that as well.

If Gizzy leaves us this year we will probably fly to Mexico City for a couple weeks and then bus it to Zihuat. We will probably stay across the street in the bungalows. Might need you at that point to check a thing or two out for us. All is good. All in good time.

See if you can use those coordinates. Not sure if you have ever been to San Cristobal but if not you may want to plan a little longer visit there. One of our favourites in all of Mexico.

We're talking about the Hotel Bonampac and Trailer Park in San Cristobal de las Casas, not the archeological site.
