Coffee only has coffee in it, otherwise it is a coffee flavored drink!

Here's the way we use to do it when we tent camped....actually we still like to have 'campfire coffee'.

Nothing like a good cup of coffee in the morning.

Now that's camping! Beautiful...
I've made instant coffee (also prefer Taster's Choice Dark) in the microwave while underway thus turning on the generator just for coffee. Can be a "bracing" experience though.
But in the morning we usually use an old 4 cup (which translates to 2) lexan french press. I think I bought it from Campmor many years ago. Instead of reading this post and buying a bigger 8 cup stainless french press for our trip in January with friends, I got one of these Brunton propane drip coffee makers for about $65 during one of Sierra Trading Post's frequent sales around the holidays.

I may have had a coupon to get that price. So I tried it out twice at home before we left to be sure it worked. We have a 10# fiberglass propane tank that we use for the grill and I hooked it up and it ran fine. The first morning in camp though when I tried to use it, I could not get it to light--the batteries did not seem to be sparking the gas igniter. So I replaced them (2D), but the same issue. It was a cold morning and later in the morning I tried again and it came right on and made great coffee! I took a lot of guff for my love of gadgets and we had to use the french press and wait for our coffee. The second morning out it worked without a hitch.
It beeps and flashes red when it is done and must be turned off, makes 10 cups (translates to 4-5) uses the cone Melita type of filters and has an insulated carafe that keeps the coffee warm for some time. I store it in the bag that comes with it in an overhead compartment so it is a bit of a project to set it up the first morning. Had to reorganize all the cabinets to fit it in too. I'm wondering if I could somehow run it off the 12 volt system instead of batteries to overcome that lack of spark issue--maybe due to the cold. It may have been a one time thing just to embarrass me and give everyone a chance to poke fun.
We're hooked!

That looks cool, but does it give off any visible white (or whitish) light while cooking? In other words, can you see the flame? If not, I could set it up on a table at our astronomy "star parties" and whip up batch outside.

It will work fine from now on. It just wanted to make sure you know who was really in charge.

I don't know if there is light emitting from the burner. I'd have to try it in a darkened room. There is a small green light on the switch that flashes red when the coffee is done. Never noticed other light or flame while it is running just the sound of the gas being ignited. It seems as if it goes out and gets reignited during the process.

I know it has been mentioned earlier, but I just have to warm up some water and pour in the Starbucks VIA coffee packet contents. It is ultra-fine ground coffee. Requires no filter and tastes almost like real Starbucks. It sure beats the Folgers packets (like tea bags) I was using.
Nothing to clean up except my coffee mug.

Found an old Correl perk pot at a garage sale. Just put it on the stove and let go at a low simmer for 5 minutes. Best coffee ever. The DW likes it better than the French press.
