I am taking a circuitous trip up north and planning a trip home (St. Augustine area) on Friday, December 23rd. I am not taking Irv (the Motorhome) on this trip, but would still like to avoid the worst traffic days. From what I have heard and seen, the snowbird influx really begins right after Christmas...is that accurate? What do you think is the best day to make the trip from Baltimore to St. Augustine? I have always heard that February was the busiest month. I would pick a day or two that do not predict snow/rain or other and go for it. Usually the traffic was really heavy, sometimes totally jammed especially if there was any construction. I personally would try to avoid that Friday - with Christmas on Sunday, everybody and their uncle is going to be headed south, and that is going to be the busiest day. It is not so much that I am afraid I won't be able to get down the road, but that one day would be worse than another. My plan is probably to take 15/81 south from PA and join 95 in the South. I may even shoot over to 301, unless that has turned into a cluster over the last couple of decades.
