If you are looking for a nice RV Park with lots of activities both in the Park and around the area this is the place. Both Winter Texan and families with kids will really enjoy Hill Country RV Park and Cottages. They have real nice RV sites and cottages which are like park models. It's located in New Braunfels, TX which has two tubing rivers and the Schlitterbaun Water Park. Only 1/2 hour away is San Antonio with the River Walk, the Alamo, Sea World, and the big River Center Shopping Mall. Forty Five minutes north is Austin where you will find the LBJ Presidential Library with tons of history about the 1960's and the Texas State Museum. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time in this area as there is so much to see and do.

Has anyone stayed at Buckhorn in Kerrville? We were thinking of heading to it.

Buckhorn is a top of the line RV park. We have not stayed there but have been by there many times. It always looks busy. We choose to stay at a smaller, quieter facility a few miles away for about 1/2 the price. Doesn't have the activities or amenities but it works well for us.

We did 2 years ago, and it was indeed the top of the line. Cleanest we had seen. As one other posted, not a lot of activities, but they had home-cooked meals 3 times a week. Had not been anywhere else where they served a 32 oz. t-bone steak, with the all the trimmings for two for $18. Also they policed the park and enforced the rules. They had a 'no pet' section, if you so desired. All-in-all, if we were to return to that area, it would be Buckhorn Lake. Kerrville is a nice Texas town, but the surrounding area didn't have a lot to offer, unless you were willing to drive an hour to San Antonio.

Sounds like the rv parks in this area don't offer as many activities as in the RGV, but the scenery and area sites sound really good. We like to take off exploring in our jeep.

Johnson Creek RV Park in Ingram, TX about 7 miles from Kerrville. Very clean and very quiet. A nice scenic area.

I live in the area and would also say that there is Lady Bird Johnson park between Kerrville and Fredricksberg. Fredricksburg is a bit of a tourist area with lots of shops and a war museum. The park has a golf course and a restaurant with OK food. The only thing I have eaten there was a burger but it was tasty. We have had two days this year when the temp got down to freezing and for the most part it's been a spring or fall type year. Feb often brings the same freezing type nights but all in all the cold as best I can remember even at it's worst is less than a week....

Lady Bird Johnson park in Fredericksburg golf course closed down January 2012 to July 2012 for revamping. There isn't a restaurant at the park but there is the airport one nearby.

I am sitting in Sonora campground and Caverns as I am reading your post. Stumbled on it by accident and the caverns are quite beautiful and very unique. The campground has waster and 50amp elc for $20/night and the 90 min cave tour was $20/ person. It is in Sonora Tx. 6 miles south of I-10 on rt 1989. Very nice in the Hill Country.
