My bumper mount bike rack with only TWO bikes BARELY was able to make TWO trips for a grand total of 1800 miles before the BUMPER started to RIP away from the welds. There was no tire or any box back there, only the TWO bikes. Hit one really bad pot hole and that is all it took.

Just because YOU have lucked out doesn't mean that OTHERS or even YOU will luckout in the future.

Judging from your profile with the trailer there it wouldn't surprise me of the bumper problem you had. Don't judge other trailers by your Terry. Case closed.

You must understand that WE ALL MUST SHARE the road with others, there are OTHERS depending on YOU to do the RIGHT thing (and safest). Failure of your bumper mount puts others in harms way, this is what you are missing.

Folks YOUR MILEAGE WILL VARY but it WILL happen sometime down the road by directly using the bumper without serious modifications and reinforcements.

A fool and his bumper will soon be parted, I learned and no longer foolish, my bikes ride elsewhere.

You have been warned.

Do any of you who are using front mounted hitches carry a scooter on the front of your TV? If so, any problems with overheating? I have a 2011 F250 w/PowerStroke and would like to carry a little Honda Ruckus on the front, but, I don't want to cause a cooling problem. My travel trailer has a factory rear mount carrying rack that is rated for 200#'s and that is basically what the Ruckus weighs, but, I am hesitant to use that rack based on some of the writeups I've been following on here.

The newer Outback's have a small receiver in the back of the trailer; has anyone used it to haul their bikes? I think the capacity is 200 lbs.

I wouldn't do it on my rig; too much overhung load for the rough roads and bouncing back end of the TT. Maybe try two bikes back there and two in front of the tow vehicle as we have done for years with a fabricated receiver.

Like this?

We went ahead and bought a Curt Mfg. Front Mount Receiver for my Sequoia. We will use the receiver type bike rack we already had. It will just lead us instead of following us around.

I just put the Bikes in the TT. I lay them down carefully on their side and stack them one on top of the other (carefully), They are just a little forward of the axles so they help add some tongue weight

Plus being in the middle of the trailer there is much less bouncing. We have never even have a bike move while traveling. Others do the same thing but with a stand up bike rack. That is fine too.

I will never put a bike on the back of the trailer... too much risk IMHO..

I hate the "what-if" game but what if you hit a pot hole and your loaded to the max 4 bike carrier gets torqued hard enough.... well we have already seen the evidence of what happens... The frame may crack... If you are using just a bumper for support you may rip it off.. again, we have already seen the evidence... even in this thread...

Thanks!
