How can these players be the best of the best, when the Super Bowl players aren't there?

These are reportedly the best position players in the league (excluding SB game), not the best team ... the two best teams play the SB (Supposed to be two best teams, anyway.) Or we could say the two teams that win the playoffs go to the SB ...
But the Pro Bowl is the best individiual player at one position, regardless of which team he plays.

The teams were picked and each position had back up players to make up for the first stringers that ended up being on the Super Bowl teams. You would have to check to see how many Giants and how many Patriots had been picked to be pro-bowlers to see what the difference would have been.

Look HERE for the original roster. Looks like New England had a lot more pro-bowlers than the Giants.

To me, it is just another way to gouge the customer. How many statesiders travel to Hawaii to see it ? What do the tv channells pay to televise it?

Unfortunately it means to me that professional football is taking another step closer to professional wrestling.

Reminded me of pre-season walk-through drills in training camp. The linemen hardly touched each other. The game makes the free trip to Hawaii tax deductible.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

It's no different than an All-Star game in basketball or hockey. It's the one chance for anyone to see the best players, as voted by the fans, all playing the same one game. The fact that the Super Bowl teams don't participate means that the players (and the teams) don't want to go out there and risk anything a week before the championship game and makes a lot of sense.

"What does the NFL Pro Bowl from Hawaii mean to you?"
The same as all the other bowl games: Absolutely nothing.
