..We're going to be staying at Ocean Lakes CG in Myrtle Beach in a few months. Need a site close to 'L' section since family will be there in a rental unit. Closest I could get is site 3161, in 3000 section. Really like that site, but not 100% certain it will work.
Here's why: Description of site says there is a tree on right front of site, and back slideouts won't work. Looking at a google earth satellite view of the site, I'm not seeing where there'd be an issue with a 36' MH, even though it does have a curbside back slideout. The back slideout does not go out very much, its a pretty 'shallow' one. Our MH also has 'center' living room slideout on street side, don't see where that will be a problem with that site, either.
Anyway, we reserved that site, but may cancel that reservation and get another site if we determine our MH will not fit on that site.
I was wondering, by any chance, if anyone here is presently at Ocean Lakes, or will be in the near future? If so, can you do a fellow camper a favor, drive by that site (3161), see if you can see any reason why a 36' MH with a small, back slideout (curbside) and larger living room slideout on street side, would have a problem fitting in that site? The site is supposedly 44' wide by 52' long, so seems we should not have a problem?
Anyway, if anyone might could drive by that site, have a look, and let me know, that'd be wonderful.
I would probably leave it up to OL as to whether backslides would work or not. I imagine that would post the least amount of restrictions for a site as possible. I wouldn't wait till I got there to try and get another site. You mentioned a few months. It starts to fill up soon.
I would recommed a site with a concret pad, it gets muddy in the spring. Rent a golf cart to go to your friends and park anywhere.

in ocean lakes many of the trees are large and have low hanging branches. the park has super strict rules about trimming the trees, so although i am not sure about the tree on that site, odds are its huge. i would consider changing sites. the previous advice about renting a golf cart is your best bet. since u are going with friends, consider sharing the cost. a golf cart is a way of life at ocean lakes. without one you will be the oddball.there are more carts than cars on the streets within the park. good luck!
To me it looks like there are some large trees in that area. I pulled up the site map at OL and compared it to Google maps. The red area shows where you would be at. It's the second site in the second row. Hard to tell where exactly that site is, but I imagine it's in that area..
I know that tree well. It's on the first site on Sand Dune. I watched a fiver get harpooned by it as the driver prepared to make a left turn towards the houses on the left. It grabbed the slide out awnings and racked the bedroom slide.
I think you'll be OK on that site but you may have trouble finding room for your toad. Most people will sneak their back slide onto the adjacent site. Never saw anyone have an issue with it. Like others said, golf carts rule the road and you should consider renting one as the cg is quite large. We use ours there as our main source of transportation. We hardly ever leave the cg as most everything you need is golf cart ride away. Have a great time!

I too would guess you would be fine. It seems that almost every site there is the same and last year, most all had larger rigs in them.
X2 on the golf cart. When we go next time, we'll either bring one or for sure rent one.
Impossible to drive anywhere there and we just had bikes last time. Is too big to bike ride around the park.
We're here at OL now, went by site 3161, the large oak tree in the rear of the site is aprox 12 feet from the electric post. So if the rear of your coach with the slide extended in not that wide you should be ok. the tree stands fairly straight so you can probably maneuver to make the site work, the rear will be tight, width wise, height on slide may be close as well.
That site has no concrete, they are installing that on many adjacent sites now. As mentioned, the sand can be a mess.
If there is a choice I would choose another close by site, without the big oak trees, the distances from L aren't that great they can't be overcome by a nice walk, bike ride, or the ever present golf cart.
This is a great place!!!!!
Thanks so much for the responses. And, thanks especially to davidm99, for driving by to look at the site. I was hoping to find someone that was there that could drive by and look at it. Campers are such great people!
As to the suggestions about a golf cart: A golf cart is part of the plan for this trip. The family is actually bringing their own golf cart they'll have at their rented site way over on other side of the park, and we are probably going to rent one of our own as well. My Mom is going also, she is the one staying over in L section, and is the reason why we wanted something close to L section. Thats why we had planned to get a golf cart regardless. If its just us, we usually don't rent one and just use our bicycles (which we are bringing as well), but that doesnt work too well with the rest of the family.
Our MH has a rear slideout that comes out about 16" on the curb side, and a deeper living room slideout in the center on the street side (its a Georgetown 351DS bunkhouse MH). From what you said about that site, Davidm99, I think I'll be OK in that site (right?). Only other choice available is much further away, in smaller sites down in 4000 section. I really would prefer to keep 3161, not only because of its closer location, but because I like all the trees on that site for the shade they provide. Other sites available now in 4000 section are much more open.
I know they have lots of sites that are paved now. However, I actually prefer an unpaved site, and intentionally avoid the paved ones. For us, parking on the dirt, sand is part of the experience we like about going to the beach.
Thanks again, everyone, for the helpful input on this.
