I'm a novice rv owner. I bought a 2006 crossroads zinger 5th wheel. The owners manual says the following..."Never remove the LP gas tank from the unit. Always tow the unit to the gas supplier to fill." The dealer I bought it from told me he's never seen a non-motorized trailer where you could not remove the tanks to bring them to be refilled. My trailer will be parked in a remote piece of land..not to be moved. LP gas suppliers will not come there because it will be off the road. Who's right...the generic owners manual or the dealer who sold the unit to me? To not be able to remove the tanks to have them filled would be a major problem for me. Thanks!!!

The trailer manufacturer's suggestion sounds like it was written by their legal department. The tanks are safe to transport in a car to the re-fill point.

You'll note that the same type of propane tanks are sold at thousands of WalMarts (Blue Rhino brand) and Home Depots (AmeriGas) across the USA for use in BBQ grills...and it's perfectly safe to transport full and empty tanks.

My posts shouldn't be taken for factual data. They are purely fictional, for entertainment purposes and should not be constituted as actually related to scientific, technical, engineering, legal, spiritual or practical advice. Amen.

Legal mobo-jumbo poorly written by an inept non-RV'r........

Your propane cylinders are portable.......so valve out the empty one, disconnect hose, remove and transport cylinder vertically to any place that fills propane tanks, cylinders, bottles and get it refilled. Then transport it vertically back to where your FW is parked. Set it back in holder, secure it, hook up hose and valve it in slowly (or leave it valved out until you need it). Repeat as often as necessary.

MOST owners manuals are designed to cover an entire line up of RVs that the manufacturer builds. It may use the same owners manual for towable and drivable RVs and I suspect that there are OTHER paragraphs that really apply ONLY to motor homes and others that apply only to trailers. Motor homes have LP "TANKS" which are permanently or at least semi permanently attached and should never be removed for filling. Trailers use Lp "BOTTLES" which are very easily removed for filling. I"m pretty sure you're just reading a paragraph that pertains only to motor homes. It's a means of cutting production costs by combining manuals in that manner.

We remove the tanks each time for refill. On our model, there are two metal straps that holds them with a latch. Just make sure you properly attach the straps when done.
