Petro-Canada mobility is operated by the same company as 7/11 Speakout. Both use the Rogers network. 7/11 is in most major towns... if you are planning on being out in the smaller communities then the Petro-Canada may be better. You can always pre-buy airtime cards and add them from the phone though, so its not that big a deal once you are active. The 7/11 time is good for 365 days, I think Petro-Can is something like 90 days. Be aware they take a monthly fee off for 911 services (a buck or 2 a month).

I tried a Nokia C3. It was very good for email but the screen was too small for viewing the web.

I see the Petro Canada phone service offers unlimited Internet for $10 a month, too.
The advantage of 7/11 speakout is that you don't have to pay every month; your payment lasts for a whole year if you don't use it up. If you end the year with a balance, it carries forward to the next year if you put in another $25. Also, the local calling area is the whole area code, so most of BC is local. If you have a BC sim card and use it in another province, it still thinks BC is local.

Harvey51, I think that for me the Speakout phone plan works the best. Long distance is only $0.45 total per minute. The fact that minutes last for 365 days is great and that you can roll over any unused minutes. Plus, I could keep the phone number alive when out of the country for just 1.25/month. Sounds like a great deal.

Thanks for the feedback on the Nokia C3 phone. I think it will work for me as I have a netbook that can be used if I need to do any web surfing. It would be convenient to occasionally read email on the phone or send a quick email message.

I have Verizon at home and when I go to Canada I add Canada Calling for that period only. My phone can then call and receive US & Canadian numbers My home phone is VOIP with Phone Power and they have a small gadget that plugs into the USB on the laptop wherever there is wi-fi and I can make calls using my hone phone #.
