I have the stack units and would not want a combo. Several friends who have had combos were not happy with them after awhile.
I have had a stack Kenmore and loved it. Now have stack Whirlpool washer and dryer and they are bigger. More like apartment size. My dryer is
220 so dries quick like home dryers..Very happy with it.
If you are worried about storage space, then you are carrying too much stuff.

We sold condensing dryers (non vented ) way back in the 50's. They used a spray of cold water to condense the steam.and the drain plugged up a lot because of lint. They didn't work that well then and I doubt they work any better now. In Yuma Az the water comes out of the ground around 100 degrees. Not going to work very well there. Heck, you could take a shower with having the water heater on.

IMHO judging how well a product will work by using data from 60 years ago is probably not terribly reliable. Our Splendide is a 12-year-old unit and we've not had any problems with lint clogging.

We just replaced our 12-year-old Splendide ventless combo with a new 7100 ventless. The difference is like night and day. I'm not saying that ventless is better (or even equal) to vented, but if you have to use a ventless the new ones definitely out-perform the older ones.

We spent three years or so full-timing in a fifth wheel with a Splendide vented combo.
We did one or two loads per day in it. Never had a problem. We kept the loads small (one full set of clothes, i.e. jeans, shirt, underwear, socks for one person), and never had any problem with wrinkles. Sheets, blankets, comforters, etc. were done in a laundromat when necessary.
We really enjoyed having the Splendide vented combo.
