Amazing how many make a decision on the biased opinion of others. I posted at the start of this tread about staying in Astoria and paying over $60 per night. I felt I did not get my moneys worth because it was oriented toward kids functions but I have stayed at other KOA's and was very happy with the accomdations. One such is the KOA at Van Horn, Tx. I have stayed there 3 times while enroute from Ga. to Ca. Host are very friendly, has a restaurant at the campground, and I will be back if the opportunity arises. Rate is $38 per night.

True, but they won't say what their nightly camping price is in the directory or on their KOA.com site . State parks rock !

Traveling from FL to PA we stay at KOA most overnight stops because of being close to I95 (quick exit and entrance in the morning). Never used them for long term stays. There are a few close to attractions and you will pay extra. My first choice for a great campground is Fort Wilderness. If the cost of KOA is $80 I can stay at Disney off season and enjoy all the extras they have to offer.

4 KOA`s here! Billings and Butte MT, Rochester/Marion MN and Chattanooga West KOA. out of those 4 I would maybe stay at 2 Chattanooga west and Rochester/marion. not very good percentages IMO. on the other hand....we stay at alot of Yogi`s and there has not been one I wouldn`t return to.....that would be 9. and a bunch of other stand alone campgrounds, all of which were good to excellent with the exception of Crazy Horse in WI.

I stayed at the one in Billings and it was certainly fine. that was a few years back so am curious what problem you had. years back a lot of folks here whined because the management evidently fussed that the police were not enforcing the do not camp ordinance at the walmart and they lost there free pass.
I found it amusing at the time that they were going to stay at another campground a short distance away. somebody posted that they had scoped both campgrounds out and the KOA was nicer and cheaper than the other one. but the KOA haters here have their biased opinions and would fuss about most anything.

Oops! let me change that. the Rochester one was so-so nothing special other than a place to park your trailer for the night.

Yes the Billings one was nice and had a nice setting on the Yellowstone? river I believe.

I've often wondered how these camp grounds became "Resorts".

Every CG "Resort" I've stayed at were no better than regular campgrounds.

I have stayed at some CG's that were resort-esque, but never have i seen a KOA that fits that bill. Most are adequate CG's, with decent amenities, but I think them being referred to as a "resort" is a bit of a stretch for marketing.

Already expensive, so what's $5.00 more? Hard to agree with that statement. It would all be so much easier if they would just set the price and not mention the additional charges, that is what usually gets people upset. We don't want to pay for the playground or dog walk, that should be part of what sets the RV site rates. Keep it simple.
It's $5.00 a night, what's the big deal and two KOA's I've been to a few times don't hide it they told me when I made my reservations. Once again it's $5.00, if that ruffles your feathers you do need to move on to Walmart, pretty sure there are no swings, pools, arcades in the parking lot. I'll gladly pay the $5.00 and enjoy everything they have to offer. Maybe you could design your own cg and for every activity there would be a different color wristband, me and my kids would have an arm full!

Well abc, then it's "only" $2.00 for the street lights, $3.00 for use of the bathroom, $2.00 document fee for the receipt...when does it stop? If you are happy paying all those fees, then that is great...they appreciate your business. We have never stayed at Walmart, we support campgrounds, but have only stayed at a few KOA's that were reasonable with their rates.

Well, I've definitely been to some so-called resort cg's that had the fee and were not worth it at all and I just don't go back. Other cg's that have the fee have been very nice and worth the extra fee and I have no problem paying a little extra. The one KOA that I remember having a resort fee that I wasn't aware of was I think Harpers Ferry... Nothing special about this cg but I have gone back and paid the fee. The nice cg's with lots to do like Beth Page in Urbanna,Virginia are just flat out exspensive $85.00 a night. Everyone is trying to increase profit without scaring people away. The fee that adds up is when u have kids and they try to hit you for more $$$ for each kid over the limit per site. I think on average we pay about $45.00 per night where we go and occasionally hit the resort cg that's hits us for $85.00. Some cg's like alot of the Yogi Bear cg's don't charge the resort fee but make u buy wrist bands for the good stuff and that cost more than any resort fee. Happy camping to all in 2012, I've found me a nice cg close to home at $38.00 per night full hookups and a nice place. So sooner Schooner, I'm on your side they are getting more money at the check in desk , I just don't get upset about it, I'm too pumped up about taking the 5er out and when I get home if I feel it wasn't worth the money I just don't go back.

your post would be more beneficial if you would identify the two KOAs you had issue with. then we could evaluate your complaints and avoid them if we are in agreement. I have checked thru my campground database before and found that the overwhelming majority that I have stayed at I give a positive review to. but I am not the type that would pull into a truck stop and try to sleep next to idling diesels.
bumpy

Rapid City South Dakota - $49.00 and got to sleep next to the interstate and couldn't use the pool.
Little Rock North KOA Arkansas - DW didn't record the price, but the sites were so washed out and uneven we couldn't get level.
Hope this helps!
