Looking for a great campgroup to stay for a couple days on our way to Arkansas during our little April trip.

We'd like something that has places of interest for us to visit - museums, historical markers, great shops, and eateries, etc.

We'll be taking our two little dogs with us, just FYI.

Thank you!

Twin Fountains RV Park in Oklahoma City is nice. Their website says: "We’re located near attractions such as: Cinemark Tinseltown theaters, the Oklahoma City Zoo, Remington Park Race Track and Casino, and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, just to name a few."
You can drive to see other things listed on their website.
What route will you be taking? Lake Texoma on the OK/TX line has a beautiful Corps of Engineers campground that has been completely redone. Burns Run East. Sites 26-44 have been redone and have sewer hookups. Just looked on www.recreation.gov and saw that they have harmful algae in the lake so if you go be sure to read the warning. Fort Smith Arkansas has a great railroad musuem among other things. We took the trolley tour.
Enjoy your trip!

Is there a state park there/near there? We're not too keen on RV parks.

Looking it up now. Thanks!

We're the same...don't like cramped RV parks. We camped at Beavers Bend SP near Broken Bow, OK and LOVED it.

Beavers Bend Site

We were in site #10. That's the river on the left side of the pic.

We spent spring break there a few years ago and had lots to do.
The fishing was great!!

Beavers Bend State Park mentioned in another post is a beautiful location. Depending on what part of Oklahoma you are travelling through there is a nice state park at Lake Murray just off of I35 not too far north of the Texas border. Another nice state park is on Tenkiller lake not far from I40.

Here is a link for the Oklahoma State Parks; http://www.oklahomaparks.com/

Wichita Mts. off of I44 in Lawton Oklahoma. The campground is called camp Doris. The buffalo wander freely throughout the park. They have one of the best interpetive centers that we have ever been to. They have water locations to fill up your holding tanks and the campsites have electricity. Neat place.

This is a really neat area. You get a great panoramic view from the top of Mt. Scott, and there is a lot of wildlife to see as you drive through the wildlife refuge. Don't miss Fort Sill's historic area which is open to the public. Old buildings from when Fort Sill was an outpost during the Indian wars, including the jail where Geronimo was held, and his grave site.

The state parks tend to not be all that close to the museums, great shops, and eateries. The parks are out in the woods. But I would suggest Robbers Cave State Park near Wilburton, if you like walking and clambering around some rocky areas and enjoying a view from fairly high up.

What MichDoc wrote was good also; the view from Mt. Scott is exceptional.
