whats the make and model of the camper and more specifically the GVWR of the camper?? That dry weight is high, I bet your loaded weight could get well over 9000lbs... need to consider that for both towing capacity, but more importantly tongue weight.
give you and example. my TT was listed as 7400lbs dry. At the time I had a 1500 series Yukon XL with about the same specs are you are showing and a tow capacity of 8600lbs...
Yukon could pull it, although it strained. More importantly the rear end was well overloaded with the tongue weight. My TT GVWR is actually just shy of 9700lbs and it weights a solid 9200-9400 loaded... did not realize that when I had my Yukon and bought the TT
My tongue weight is somewhere between 1200-1300lbs and for your tt under load I would expect similar weights... You need a TV with a substantial cargo capacity...

I don't have the truck you're considering. I've never towed with a 1/2 ton truck. Does GM publish in their manufacturer's published towing guide that the truck is rated for towing 10,000lbs? That's about the weight you'll be looking at when the TT is loaded & wet. That brings up another question as to whether towing a 10,000lb TT plus the loaded & fueled weight of the truck combined will exceed the truck's combined GCWR and it's GVWR when hitched?
FWIW: My personal guideline for towing is I want my truck's tow rating to exceed the total weight I'm towing by 20% and to be at or within the trucks GCWR. I'm just sayin!!! Good luck.
Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!

based upon that number you should be expecting a tongue weight somewhere around 930-1200lbs...
You need to ensure you have the payload capability in the TV to handle that along with the family etc...
That seems to be the showstopper with many large TT, 1/2 ton TV combos...

travel trailer or 5th wheel?
Very close (too close for me) if it's a travel trailer..no way if it's a 5the wheel.

what about adding air bags or springs to aid the suspension.... not wanting to go to a 2500 as this will be my everyday vehicle as well. I'm a teacher and live 7 min from my HS. budget budget budget

air bags don't increase the payload of a truck. Payload is a factor of suspension, axles, frame, tires and others.
Your truck will pull this trailer. My concern would be how close or over the truck's payload you are going to be with this trailer - fully loaded, optioned and trip ready plus whatever you load in the truck like passengers, gear, etc.

You will be sorry if you go with that truck...not enough power for that weight. Looking at the GM chart I would go with the 6.2...373 gears and max tow package. This combo gives you power and will not be a big difference in your short commute.
