I had the same problem on my trailer. The problem was the regulator mounted to the tank was leaking through a vent hole in the regulator. Easily checked with some soapy water. Easy fix . As I recall a new regulator was less than $50. I don't recall if the set up on motor home mounted tanks is the same. Mine is in storage or I would go look.

if it didnt leak before you refilled it, you may just have not tightened your regulator enough.

As far as I know, the leak did not exist before I had it refilled last time. I don't know much about the "filling up" operation, is there something the gas guy might have done (or not done) that would cause a leak?

Sorry but if you have to ask that question, you should pay someone, or get someone who knows gas to fix it.

Propane is not bad,,,,, unless it is. Then it's too late.

I would agree with you if there is a complicated repair involved. However, I think I am capable of getting some soapy water and spraying on the fittings to see if there is an obvious leak that can be repaired by tightening the fittings etc. I promise not to hold a lighted match to the fittings!!

Sorry, just a knee jerk to your Q what could the dealer have done...You are right,. This ain't Rocket Science, soapy water will tell the tale and as long as it doesn't smell a lot, a match/long nosed lighter is alright to use as well. Just a mite flammable when the concentration is up. I've trimmed my eyebrows, beard and mustache, lighting an oven,,, which by the way, proved to be flammable as well. Who's plucking chickens,,,, again?

It's just plumbing with a bit of a twist. Spray away.

A note on the lazy people you asked about it. When you do a permanent install, it has to hold pressure for 24 hours before they will sign off on it. So the LP pumpers you depended on were Not being realistic.

Today the weather co-operated enough that I was able to crawl under the MH and look for the leak. I sprayed all the fittings I could get to and saw no leak. I was about to give up the search, but heard a very slight hissing sound. I looked at the flexible line that runs from the tank to the pipe mounted to the frame, then ran my hand down the length of the hose. When the sound changed, I discovered a hole in the hose on top where I could not see it. I then sprayed the soapy water on top and a huge bubble appeared. Leak found!!! Looks like it has probably been there for a while. Now my next question - where will I find such a hose?

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. You folks probably saved me a lot of money provided I can locate the parts. This website is great. Thanks again.

Try taking a few pics of the hose with a ruler showing to an LP dealer who has a service department. Or remove the hose and take it. BTDT.

Propane supplier can make you a hose. Most MH dealers should also be able to make one.

Turn off the tank valve and take the old one off.

Don't know about your area, But the last hose I got came form Ace Hardware. I gave them the length, picked the fittings I needed and they crimped them on.

Propane shops should be able to help.

Maybe a Hydraulic shop. You never know what they've got laying around

If it uses pipe threads, make sure they give you the right thread sealer. I do not recall what the one is for gas, sorry.

I already have the old one off. It was a bit of a pain since it has been on there about 8 years or so. I will call around tomorrow and take it with me to get it matched up correctly. Thanks again for all the help.

Camping world has some hoses.

Just a side question, why can't you use the stainless flexible connectors like you use for a water heater or clothes dryer at home? I'm sure you can't use them on a motorhome but just curious as to why not?

That's a good Q. Wonder How come? or if not?

I know for permanent stationary installs they want the yellow acordian looking flex pipe between the hard pipe and the tank, now. AND the hard pipe has to be buried AND it has to be the Green coated iron pipe. But have been fortunate with the rolling stock propane, so far.

I suppose it could be tougher to find a leak if/when one showed up?

Just got back from a nearby Ace Hardware where I bought a new flexible hose. They didn't have the exact fit so I bought a similar length hose and extra fittings to attach it. This brings up another question for you guys. The MH had a 3/8 inch hose on it, but Ace only had a 1/4 inch hose. I questioned him about it, and he said the smaller hose would work just fine. It did have the same 350 psi rating. He said the size of the hose would not matter since the regulator controlled the gas flow. I guess it makes sense, but what do you folks have to say about it?
