JinD The third one of yours is going to be difficult.

I have two that are tough and one where you can hardly see the bird.

1 - tough

2 - another toughie

3 - can you see the bird?

The mystery bird looks most like a green heron but the markings on the neck are not typical. An immature perhaps?

Some nice pix though.

The best guess on the first is a Pied billed grebe.

The second is a American black duck mallard hybrid.

The last is a American bittern.

I forgot I had this photo from a few years back. These two may not so be easy to guess.

I'll give a hint: They are on the endangered species list and at their lowest point there were only 30 in existance. They are doing much better now, but still on the list.

JinD #'s 1 and 2 are close but not correct (although they are not as hard as a nene goose which had me stumped) #3 is correct.

Hints: #1 was taken in the far southern tip of Texas and #2 was taken near Tucson.

I guess my hint was too easy. Yes they are Nene's. This was on the back porch of a condo we stayed at on Kauai a few years ago. These two apparently live right there near the condo complex because I know some friends that stayed there too and they had pictures of the same birds.

I have to admit I'm stumped on #2, I thought I had it nailed. Your hint helped on #1 although the plumage is off for a least grebe.
