I took my Toyota corolla in today for it's 25k and final free maintenance oil change today. Toyota gives all owners free oil changes and other services for two years or 25k which ever comes first. when I went in for my first oil change, I told the guy I wanted to change to synthetic oil this time. He said that some came from the factory with synthetic and some didn't, we will put in the synthetic for you. at 10k, I went through a discussion as to why I could not have synthetic and I told him they were putting it in for me and not charging me for it, same thing at 15K and 20K. each time they told me they put in synthetic oil. well, to day, went through the same little discussion and I told them I want the oil as that is what we have been using and I want to continue using it. after I pickup the car they said they put it in for me no charge as they didn't rotate the tires so they used that money for the synthetic oil. I questioned this and he said no we haven't put it into the car at all, this was the first. So I asked him, so you guys have led me to believe all this time that you have put in the synthetic oil but have used dino oil. so you deceived me and lied to me. I came home and wrote a letter to Toyota USA and complained. we will see if toyota wants my business in the future or not. this really upset me. I even offered to pay the differnce for the synthetic oil. But the just said it was taken care of.

Here in California we used to say, that on a quiet night you could hear a Toyota rust.
Now we can't hear them at all, they accelerated out of sight.
That dealer definitlly deceved you, probablly all the times that you had the vehicle in for service.
The parent company and the dealer won't do much, they probablly now consider you a nusance customer, find a good independent to do your oil changes, and if need be, purchase your oil and take it with you, and request the empty containers.

I wouldn't worry myself too much over it. Nothing ruined or even its life shortened. I personally wouldn't switch to synthetic until 20K miles anyway. Switch now that the engine is broke in and it will last 200K miles or more anyway.

The oil was changed for free. The warranty on the engine is the same as if it had full synthetic from the beginning. Other than this lie, what affect does it have on the engine and warranty?

You received what you paid for, free oil changes for 25,000 miles. It's not like they told you the oil was changed and then they didn't change it.

My Mom took her '05 Toyota Camry for an oil change and they told her she needed a new water pump because it is leaking. She brought it home and my dad checked it over and there is NO leak! They were trying to rip her off. Sad part is that she did get a new water pump in it a couple of years ago because they told her it was leaking then, so she just had it done under warranty....Gotta watch those dealerships...

Any auto repair place for that matter..and what makes me even more mad is them trying to take advantage of women! I'm sure they try it with men, too, but they think women will fall for anything...Uugghh!!!

Nothing new for Toyota...there is a 15+ page thread on another forun with someone trying to get his Scion's cold start rattle fixed. Three plus months of stonewalling so far.

My brother took his Toyota in for its free oil changes on time. After the free oil changes expired he took the vehicle to another dealer.
The mechanic called him out into the service bay to show him that the oil drain plug was still painted over which happened at the factory.
My bother took pictures and had the dealer write out a service report. It took 6 months, but he got an extended warranty on the engine.

What forum is that? I'm seriously thinking about buying a Scion.
